Why I he so highly regarded? His USC teams offense was not great by any means. Neither was Tennessee. I personly think he is still riding the back of Pete Carroll. If Alabama hires him we shall see I guess.

I think every program that has hired him asks this same question after about 6 months. He had a good run in 2005 as USC's OC. That's it. Keep in mind that offense had Leinart, Bush, LenDale White, Swayne Jarrett & Steve Smith. All incredible college football players.

They hire him to get to his wife.

That's all I'm saying. Maybe he is a better OC when he is not a head coach.

Who says he's highly regarded. If he wasn't Monte's son, he'd be coaching high school ball somewhere.

I think his hiring will all be about recruiting. He's a fantastic recruiter, but a horrible coach. He's going to be able to help Bama get that Ho's Hosting program up and running. Also, he's not afraid to bend any of the recruiting rules or just ignore them. Bama can do whatever they want in recruiting, the NCAA won't touch them. REC is all powerful

2005 his last year as a standalone OC at USCw calling plays etc the offense led almost all categories

Well they need to hurray up and get him on board to get their 2014 class in place. I mean if it's one thing Bama needs to tighten up it's that god awful recruiting they have been doing the last several years.

Don't kid yourself, that was Pete's team.

I think most think of him as considerably better as an OC than as an HC. Also, he was phenomenal as a play caller on the 204-2005 USC teams. People will point out all the talent those teams had, but it isn't as if Bama is lacking offensive talent.
I still don't think it's a "done deal" like so many others assume.

If hiring Kiffin means Bama declining just a little, then I'm all aboard you will not have any complaints over here.

They had 2 Heisman winners in the backfield and an NFL roster. A chimp could have produced the same results.

He can recruit.
Other than that ...

Yea cause Alabama needs his "great" recruiting abilities.

He doesn't even have the track record of that either. He had ONE good year and that was with 2 Heisman trophy winners. The guy is the biggest in the entire coaching world.

Ask USC fans what they think about Lane's play calling.

Exactly. Kiffen can recruit and Alabama doesn't really appear to need help in that area.
And other than recruiting, I see no positive to having Kiffen anywhere near a college football program.
Would be a very strange hire, imvho.
