At quarterback and tailback.

*Assuming Tre leaves and Pettway qualifies

QB:
Nick Marshall, Sr.
Jonathan Wallace, Jr.
Jeremy Johnson, So.
Sean White, Fr.

RB:
Cameron Artis-Payne, rSr.
Corey Grant, rSr.
Payton Barber, rFr.
Racean Thomas, Fr.
Kamryn Pettway, Fr.

Great problem to have, because I feel like all of these guys except Wallace and Pettway could be starting or getting significant playing time at just about any big school in the country.

Has there been anymore talk about Wallace transferring? Couldn't blame him.

Pettway And I'm sure a lot of BCS schools would have LOVED to have him coming in to start.

I don't see a real problem at QB since JJ didn't red shirt. White will almost certainly red shirt, giving them both two years to start.

RB on the other hand is going to be extremely competitive, and I wouldn't be surprised to see someone transfer.

It would be nice to have Wallace next year. We can redshirt Johnson unless Nick gets hurt and have Wallace play in mop up duty.

I think Sean White redshirts next year to give a two year gap between him and Jeremy. Wallace probably is just shite out of luck and will be a card holder until he graduates.

As for the running backs, I think Pettaway comes in as an HBack/fullback and depending on who can take over that blocking role, he might redshirt to learn it. The running backs will be a logjam but I could see them using 2 or 3 at a time in the backfield on plays.

All in all, I see the offense being a little more dynamic than it was this year. We will still run the ball but try to pass the ball 15 to 20 times a game too. I hope we manage to implement some 5 to 15 yard passes in the offseason.

He might, but it would be silly IMO. He has no future in professional football, and would be better off going into coaching under Gus since he's a pretty bright kid.

It still befuddles my dumb Barner mind to think that, had Dyer not been a dumbass, Yeldon not flipped, and Jovon qualified legitimately, in 2012 Tre might have been battling Chandler Shakespeare for carries on the scout team. Especially with the previous staff.

2012 RBs:
Michael Dyer Jr.
Onterrio McCallebb Sr.
TJ Yeldon Fr.
Jovon Robinson Fr.
Mike Blakely rFr. (transfer)
Tre Mason So.

Agreed, but the kid probably wants to play, even if it's not for a top tier team.

I could see Wallace staying on as a GA if he is wanting to get into coaching. I think Kodi gets a gig somewhere in the next year as an assistant, especially if we have another big offensive year.

I really don't see any log jams. I assume White will redshirt and Marshall/JJ will be 1/2.

I think Pettaway and Grant will be specialty backs like Omac and Smith. That leaves Payne, Barber, and Thomas to battle out for the starting position.

Read an article about him last week and he said he loved Auburn and was not transferring.

And he has not thought about transferring to a school where he could get more playing time. Ask him about it and he ends the discussion with a simple sentence.

"I am an Auburn man," he said.

'You never quit'

You forgot Grant

I think it would've looked something like this:

Power Back:
Michael Dyer, Jr.
T.J. Yeldon, Fr.
Jovon Robinson, Fr.
Mike Blakely, rFr.

Speed Back:
Onterio McCalebb, Sr.
Corey Grant, rJr.
Tre Mason, So.

I feel like the last staff had the original intention of using Mason as a speed back rather than a primary tailback, but was left without much of a choice after three of the guys they wanted were on campus for a combined 3 months in 2012 and the fourth spent his time here as high as a kite.

Man I completely forgot about Mike Blakely. Honestly, I'd take Tre over Yeldon and Robinson both.

Love the quote from Wallace. I see him going the Kodi Burns route.

Damn, you're right, he sat out '11 and played in '12 as well.

Pound for pound, Tre is the best back of all of those mentioned, because he has developed that Emmitt Smith-type field vision. Like smith, he doesn't have blinding speed or overpowering strenth, but enough of both of those qualities combined with his ability to see holes and move to them as the play unfolds makes him an elite runner.

I think he declares for the draft and has a decent NFL career. As much as I'd like him to give us one more year, I think it's in his personal best interest to make the jump now. And he's already cemented his spot in AU lore. He may end up as popular with fans as our Heisman guys even if he never takes another snap.
