Why doesn't LSU support basketball?

I can understand teams that have no chance to make the tournament this year like Georgia, Auburn, A&M, USCe, Vandy, Miss State, and Bama not having great fan this year, but LSU has a legit shot of making the big dance and the arena is its typical half full self. Heck, Alabama fans are accused of only caring about football and they will probably have a few thousand more fans at their game tonight as a 5-7 team than LSU will.
