What foods or other substances do you avoid for health reasons?

I've been reading a lot about aspartame lately. Mainly because my seasonal depression has gotten really bad the past two years. I never needed meds until last Dec-Feb. This year I just went and got the script as soon as I started sleeping extra.

I took a few days off aspartame, and I felt pretty good. I really noticed it when I drank a diet Sunkist that my hands and feet got cold and I kinda felt shitty.

One of the effects I've read about with Aspartame is vasoconstriction. I'm going to see if I can repeat the experiment.

Do you avoid any foods for health reasons, and if so which ones?

Shrimp, lobster, and crab.

Because eating them closes up my throat and turns me into Hitch.

I've been body hacking a bit lately, and your post reminds me of a recent traumatic experience.

I read that a spoonful of wild honey helps with sleep, because it is slow to digest and will keep blood sugar steady throughout the night.

So the other night, I go to get some honey. I squirt it in my mouth, thinking "if I can curl my tongue up and keep it from touching my teeth, then I won't have to brush my teeth again." Seems like a logical decision at the time.

Long story short, I started choking on honey. I shite you not, one of the most frightening moments of my life. Something about the texture of honey makes your larynx spasm. So I start to choke, then my airway shuts off instantly. I couldn't breathe. Damn near passed out. Saw stars.

Luckily, the spasm only lasted for like 5 seconds and slowly I was able to breathe again.

Google choking on honey. Frightening shite.

Sugar because I'm diabetic and it really isn't good for you regardless.
I also backed way off on the carbs and cut my portion sizes.
Made me feel much better.

Oh and crank because I love that shite and it just gets me in trouble

The only time I consume a lot of aspartame is when I'm on a coffee binge, so I have no way of telling if the side effects are from that or the caffeine.

Nope. Other than eating healthy because it's the healthy thing to do, there's nothing that I avoid for health reasons.

Nothing I completely avoid. I try to limit things that contain high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners.

I avoid caffeine. That shite warps my brain. Can't stand it.

Oh, and pork. Why would anybody eat a pig?

I order Americanos instead of lattes now because dairy + coffee = diahrrea.

Because God created it as the perfect food animal.

No pig? I don't know what I would do without bacon.

When I had colitis I had to avoid pretty much anything that was high in fiber or "rough" on the intestines. Been able to incorporate a lot of stuff back in but I don't know that I'll ever be able to eat ground beef again. I also have to be really careful about taking antibiotics, since they're pretty sure that's what caused the colitis (killed all the "good" bacteria in my intestine along with the bad).

I've been reading up on anti-inflammatory diets since I was recently diagnosed with endometriosis and apparently it can help control symptoms. It's basically low-fat proteins, carbs, and heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Which probably would be beneficial anyway.

When I eat boiled cabbage it can be deadly to others around me... but it's a risk I warn them about and leave up them.

Onions, at least raw ones. I can have cooked onions in a very small amount (like if they're in a sauce). I can have sweet onions and that's usually what I cook with. I hate them anyway

I have had similar gut problems.

The best thing I've ever discovered is colostrum. I eat it like candy.

^^^Motherfrickin' THIS^^^

Bacon, Sausage, ham, pork chops, pork roast……all delicious. If those dirty arse Hadji's would just kick back with a nice plate of swine, they might chill just a bit.

Somebody recommended that to me awhile back. During my surgery Friday they OB/GYN actually told me that when he went in the inflammation from the endometriosis had shifted my colon out of place and may have been part of my bowel issues (outside of the UC). I'm interested in seeing if it changes anything post-surgery (so far, so good).
