Here's an interesting twist on this academic fraud at unc.

quote:

DURHAM, N.C. — The Student Athletes Human Rights Project filed a complaint Friday with the federal Office for Civil Rights alleging the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill discriminated against male athletes, especially black, male athletes, in assigning more of them to so-called 'paper classes.' In directing athletes to those classes, the complaint says, the university deprived them of the same quality education available to other student-athletes.

"The data suggests black student-athletes are disproportionately enrolled in paper courses when compared to white student-athletes," the group wrote in its complaint to the United States Department of Education.

The group backed up the complaint with data from reports both internal and external as the university looks into allegations that courses in the Department of African and Afro-American Studies catered to student athletes, requiring only a paper and no classroom time. An inquiry conducted by former Gov. Jim Martin in 2012 found problems in more than 200 courses dating to at least 1997, including forged signatures on grade rolls, unauthorized grade changes and poor oversight.

You'd think Sportscenter would be covering this instead of a gay basketball player at UMass

I have yet to hear anything about his from the 4 letter network.

Prepare for UNC to eat itself as it tries to prove how non-racist it is.

And for the record, I think it's ludicrous to claim that this is a result of racism. No, it is because UNC recruited kids who couldn't perform at college level

Has anything at all come of this yet? Will it ever?

Yes, they will slap probation on Maryland for UNC's transgressions.

Former player McCants told OTL that Roy Williams was aware of the academic fraud going on at UNC

ESPN isn't going to touch it. We all know that UNC is a total dumpster fire, but they're also a chosen program. Nothing will happen to them in the media, and certainly not by the NCAA. I'm with Cheese Grits; NC State may get the death penalty for this, but nothing is going to happen to UNC.

I really, really hate those assholes.

I'll say this and it's probably not a popular opinion.
I'm fine with doing whatever needs to be done to keep football and basketball players eligible.

They're here for our viewing pleasure not to get some sociology degree.

Yeah, well, I'd have to disagree with that. Once you start doing that then all you are doing is lowering the bar, lowering the standards, and once that happens stuff always falls apart.

We've lowered the standards enough in our school systems already ... practically destroyed our primary school system to where we're what, 24th in the world now or something like that?

No way should we want the college game to become nothing but about the entertainment value. When that happens then it's game over.

UNC was cheating back in the 50's and 60's and folks all knew it. This is nothing new and UNC and Duke are preaching from the pulpit while they are the worst offenders. This dual nature of reality is what I hate the most.

This guy is just looking for a payday. I loathe people like him, he was given every opportunity in the world to succeed.
Now that he failed in life he wants someone besides him to take the responsibility for it.

Agree to disagree.

Yes I know they're "student athletes" but I've went to school with these students, they're far from that.

You wonder if anything will ultimately come from all of this.....but at least it keeps escalating rather than fading away....
