If Bama wins handily and looks great in the process and AU looks ugly and wins by 1, would the AP possibly declare Bama the number 1 spot and have a split NC.

If that was the case and we still had split titles, then OSU might have gotten a piece last year, and Okie State and/or LSU would have gotten a share of it in 2011.
