Should the bowl game win minimum be increased to 8 games?

People just aren't getting excited for bowl games anymore considering that there are 35 Bowl Games which translates into over half the teams go to the playoffs. Rarely do the lower tier bowl games sell out and during a disappointing season, even the BCS bowl games have a hard time selling ticket allotments to the fan bases.
If the post season minimum win requirement were to increase to 8 games, it would effectively make going to a bowl game at least respectable and for programs like Arkansas, the season of a generation. Right now, going to a bowl game doesn't really mean shite and quite frankly embarrassing if you have a cruddy enough season to go to a place like the Music City Bowl
What does the SECr think?

Considering the current minimum is 6 i could get behind a 7 win minimum before an 8 game minimum.
But either way it doesn't matter because ESPN wants to show as many bowl games as possible, regardless of the participants records or bowl attendance

They should do a better job of matching good teams that are within a reasonable travel distance. If Auburn was in a shitbox bowl that no one gave a shite about and meant nothing halfway across the country, you bet I wouldn't pay $150 to 250 for a ticket plus travel to go see it. The prices are what are driving people away from bowls more than anything. Couple that with most people having some type of nice tv available to them that they can sit at the house comfortably spells bad ticket sells and I have no sympathy for them.

yes
I remember when I wrung my hands in the 80s when bowls went to 16. Now they are diluted crap.
Agree about the match ups need improving and the SEC teams playing at the same time irritates me but nothing to be done about that.

I haven't watched a full bowl game yet because the pairings are silly.
You bring up a good point, in my younger years we briefly lived in Montgomery Alabama and they held the 'Blue Grey' game on Christmas day in Cramden Bowl, we would open presents, dress warm and we all would go as a neighborhood and watch and root at the game.
A lot of fun and you had a lot of people in the seats every year.
Giant HDTV and multiple delivery systems DVR's ultimate man caves decks have changed all that.
I gave up my NFL seats because I get a better product and redzone at home and can roll over and snooze if its a stinker.
The 4+1 model I think will open some eyes next season if they even get it 30% right and the market will take care of the rest.

You should definitely at least have a winning record. I think 8 is a solid number.

They've all been pretty crappy so far, something needs to change.

This. ESPN has a TON of airtime to fill from mid December-early Jan. That's why they currently own 7 bowl games and will likely own at least 10 next year.

I think it should be 9, personally.

Bad idea for Auburn fans. Without these fluke seasons, they would hardly ever go to a bowl.

Doesn't matter to me. If you're in any other bowl than a BCS bowl (barring that you're a highly ranked SEC Team that didn't get in due to a ranking formality), then really you're just going somewhere for shits and giggles. And a game that exists solely to make your players feel good about being middle of the pack

I think it's great that some of these teams get to go on a bowl trip. Some of these guys would never get to go otherwise. Some of these bowl cities and bowl trips aren't so great, but if the players enjoy it, then so do I.
If you don't want to go to the game, don't go. If you don't want to watch, don't watch.

They should decrease it when they system stops making money.

I think the answer is less Bowl games. You have to scrape the bottom to fill all of these insignificant bowls.

Yes

No chance bowls are decreasing. In fact, I read they're increasing by 5 or 6 next year.
Here's an article that details how the SEC is going to be directly involved in the placement of member teams in their bowl games moving forward - with the goal of more attractive game match-ups.

BTW: This seasons bowl games are the worst that I have ever watched.

Winner winner chicken dinner.
Its not about the game, players, or ticket sales. Its the sponsors and money being exchanged at that level.

TV ratings say other wise. I believe I saw where the Pitt/Bowling game the other night out drew one of the conference tourney title basketball games. The bowl games aren't going any where as long as ESPN is making money.
