How long did he stay in town? Is there any chance we hire him as an assistant? If Nuss leaves, would he get a look?

I figure he would be on the short list of OC names along with Schottenheimer and Bloomgren. Basically if they don't have a Saban/Belchik/Parcells connection then they would have a Bama connection. Not everyone can work for a guy like Saban.

I know a friend of mine saw him at Innisfree some time last week.

Like I said in the other thread, he was probably brought in by Saban to pick his brain on the offense and see how he co-exist with the other staff. There is nothing that shows Nuss would be leaving, and Saban wouldn't want to rush his "rehabilitation" so I see him getting some job in the recruiting office with a direct consultation for on the field coaching. Start him gradually, so people can get past all of Kiffin's many mistakes than work him back into the field coaching fold when opportunities arise.
I think this was a long job/opportunity interview. Kiffin made rounds about Tuscaloosa and was said to be very endearing to staff and locals. If Kiffin impressed I'm quite sure we'll see him back quite soon. We wouldn't make a hire like this before the season/bowl is over. We don't want to make waves and I'm sure Saban just wants to give the guy another chance.
I think Kiffin would jump at this because let's face it, the guy hast destroyed his image and needs to learn a lot. This would give him the ability to earn good money, learn, rehabilitate and enhance himself for the future. I'm sure he KNOWS there aren't any HC or OC jobs anyone will hire him for.

^ This.
I'm sure he was either added (or deleted) from the shortlist after the visit.
The purpose of the visit was offensive QC stuff, which is typical, and of course Coach Saban would take the time to see how he interacted while he was there, that's just making the most of the visit.

He was at Innisfree last Saturday night, exactly one week ago. That's as long as I know. I'd love it if we hired him as our OC. Great recruiter, great playcaller and developer of QBs, and Saban would keep him in line.

i say no...I think I heard an espn sports analysis say that the O for USC was a lot more effective after Lame left. I think his personality would be hard to coexist with a NS team since Lame may have a hard time running NS's offense. Lame is going to want to run his O without any over sight.

For one he wouldn't be getting hired as an OC right now. Just a recruiting filler job until he finds his legs or Nuss moves on.
Secondly, there is no way Kiffin takes that attitude or approach with Nick freaking Saban. He actually has an admiration for the guy and Saban would be doing him a gigantic favor getting him a job to build himself back, instead of sitting at home doing nothing and keeping the stench of failure.
When you read forums, the more you see people have a very high standard in life. A standard I wonder if they keep themselves. Kiffin has been a douche many a time, but everybody who hasn't done something heinous deserves another chance. Nick Saban is about giving chances to those who want to use them to change. I'm all for it. I was given like 100 chances as a redshirt freshman and I wasn't a bad kid, I was just experience freedom for the first time.
Some of you guys got to loosen up a little.

That makes the most sense to me if he is hired on (mainly hired as a recruiter and maybe if also a coach he coaches WR or TE or something like that). We usually lose a couple of guys on the staff so this may have been a proactive move.
I wouldn't think Lane would want to come back to the south (he didn't really like how football crazy Knoxville was and that's a church social compared to TTown) but working for Saban would probably be his best opportunity.

I'd be happy if he were a Recruiting Coordinator/QB Coach

That actually sounds like the perfect job for him.

Nuss is already QB coach, so why not a recruiting staff member and co-QB coach?
He be in recruiting and on the field with a small say. Nuss and Kiffin have history, so if he can humble himself and work (which it seems like he fully has) then I think he would be great for us.
If Nuss ever leaves, we're good at OC. That is for sure. He won't be a lose cannon with Saban mentoring him either.
ETA: @Garfield, forgot to respond my bad. I actually think the south is a great fit for Lane right now. He wants to run from the West as fast as possible and he'll be with us. Well protected in Saban's machine where Vols can't even touch him.
I'm telling you guys, if we don't bring him in it is because Saban isn't sold on him. I really truly believe we were giving him an extended audition for a job/image rehab.

I don't care if we hire him, as long as he brings his wife with him.

hire the wife to monitor the commitment fax in a thong and screw the hubby

this is the type of thing that would make me inclined to get some bama tattoos and name my first born after Saban or Bear.

I liked his comment during an interview in 09'taking a shot at Urban Meyer. When asked to compare Alabama-Florida, said something along the lines of Florida may have better players but Alabama definitely has much better coaching.

He said a lot of things about Urban, but that was one
