10 days over the last four years where they could not practice due to bad weather??WTF is McGarity talking about? Is he including spring practice?I know we lost several practices last spring and of course those 2 the week of GT...

Sounds like he saying everything he can so he won't have to justify the facility.

This issue is not just missed practices (they can practice in bad weather be better prepared for bad weather in games) it's that our competitors have indoor practice facilities for practicing on artificial turf which is a tick mark they have for attracting recruits that we don't have.

To supporting other sports, mainly.

I don't have the stats on UGA, but for Florida it breaks down something like this:

Revenue expenses profit

Football 68,715,750 24,457,557 44,258,193

Men's B'tball 10,184,136 7,908,661 2,275,245

Womens BBall 160,128 2,997,648 -2,836,820

Other (Men's) 1,375,536 6,687,001 -5,311,475

Other (Womens)2,641,684 12,634,533 -9,992,849

Total: 28,392,524 profit

Now, keep in mind that you then have to have stadium/arena/field upkeep, athletic dorms, etc.

I am assuming that the profit picture includes recruiting for the various sports, laundry, coaching staffs, office personnel, etc...but the article I read (Forbes magazine) did not make this clear. So, while there is big money in college football, football must cover the shortfall of the other sports. Football makes good money...men's basketball makes a little money, and the rest lose. When men and women's basketball is lumped together...basketball as a whole loses money. Football pays the bills for all other sports, essentially.

Most of that $40 million goes to fund just about all the other sports at UGA. I believe basketball makes a small profit (mostly due to TV money) Baseball can sometimes come close to making money. All the others are a big drain on athletic dept funds.

I would find it hard to believe the UFAG athletic dept
made that much profit...UGA claimed a little under $3
million profit in the 2012/13 school year.

I didn't read the article but it's probably mentioned in there. A few years ago when this really started to gain traction, the AD mentioned doing it a few miles away off millege like where the softball complex is now, I think.

Another option which I love it doing it where the track currently is now. Obviously you'd have to relocate that, but it's a central location and would certainly be big enough.

How many boosters will step up to donate I wonder? Bc I'd be willing to bet that there is no way on God's green earth that they would take the full costs out of the reserve funds. Honestly I just don't think it will really happen.

I don't know when..but it definitely will happen at some point. The past 5 years or so there's just been way too much outcry to have one. Richt is adamant about wanting one, all the fans and media always question why we don't have one, most everyone else has one, etc. It never seemed to be an issue in the 90s but it seems like the past decade, and past few years in general, there has been a major push for one. I can't see us not having one 20 years from now.
