Most NFL scouts view McCarron as a second or third round draft pick

The strongest scouting opinions on Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron among NFL clubs vary wildly, from a late first-round pick to as late as Round 5, according to Reese's Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage, but most identify the Crimson Tide's fifth-year senior as a second- or third-rounder.
Savage joined Matt "Money" Smith and NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks on the NFL.com College Football 24/7 podcast Tuesday and had some telling comments about one of the 2014 NFL draft's most intriguing quarterback prospects.
"Within the state of Alabama, most think he's in the top five picks. Outside of Alabama, you hear people say he may not even be a fourth- or fifth-rounder. I think the answer is somewhere in between," Savage said. "I think if you asked all 32 teams right now on a bell curve, there'd be two or three teams who would have him potentially as a high second-round, maybe even late first-round pick, then there would be two or three teams that would have him in the fourth or fifth round, that are not that impressed with his arm strength, what have you. The vast majority of scouts I have spoken to see him as a second- or third-round pick."

No one I've heard but people who don't care about the NFL in the state think he's a top 5 pick...that's just stupid
QBs can make a seriously huge impact on draft position at the Combine, he will win the interview for EVERY team, with training he will look good as a thrower
He has a very natural quick release and makes good decisions (good INT %)
Can we at least wait till the Combine PLEEEAAASE?

Yeah I don't think I know anyone who believes that

Only QB with a semi shot at top 5 is Bridgewater and he might be stating (don't believe that but we will see)

There are some really stupid Bama fans. They stay mostly on TideFans but there are out there.

Dear God, I know even Bammers are not that crazy.

He is very overrated
Lynch is same range as McCarron (maybe lower round than McCarron goes) and is criminally underrated
Mett has a good shot at impressing at the Combine but will have to do a good job in the interview

I'm hopeful Mett lasts late enough in the first round to go to the Cardinals. They still have Palmer and Mett will be recovering from his injury to some extent.
Could be a natural fit if they actually want to go that route.
RE: McCarron I just can't tell as a fan. I'll be curious to hear the professional scouts describe his arm strength and ability to read and react. It is a big step up to the next level and I can't really tell if the Murrays and McCarrons are really next level material or just great college quarterbacks.

I think that he is a 1st round pick. Dont know why anyone would think otherwise.

He's a good solid QB ,but I don't think hes a QB right out the gate is going to pull a NFL franchise out the dumpster fire. It seems like first round QBs are expected to perform miracles these days.I think he needs to get the Ryan Mallet treatment and get drafted in the third round. That way he gets a few years to develop behind a great QB.

Give him Tampa's OL, running game and WRs and he'd be VERY successful
He can make NFL throws with a step into it and hape already has quick release and really great QB vision

AJ and his tats would fit in well with the white trash in Tampa

I wouldn't take him before the 4th round.

I sure hope AJ falls into a good NFL situation
That will help AJ more than anything else. Many things determine a rookie players success in the NFL. What NFL organization draft them matters, the availability of their position on new team matters, how much hunger is left within rookie once they get paid good $ matters, how much skill does said rookie have matters, does teams system fit rookies style matters, how good is the NFL team the rookie got drafted by matters , and many other things can factor into things. It's a roll of the dice and not an exact science figuring out who will do well in the NFL. Suppose it's sorta like our PC's trying to work well & smoothly. There's going to be hicups when trying to get so many different things working as one simultaneously. PC's and football teams are similar with this thinking.
Throughout the years with draftees
Players with something to prove are worth a look

I just hope he stays healthy through the bowl game so he can show what he has to the scouts at the combine and whatever other evaluation exercises he participates in.

I agree. With the rookie salary cap, I think (from a player's perspective) a premium would be put on which team you go to rather than what spot you're drafted in. I'd rather go in the 3rd round to a team where I could grow and have a chance to succeed than in the 1st round to a team that was a shitty organization.
