Going to be Harsin's DC. He and Harsin have always been pretty tight but this is a tough blow as Yates is one of our top recruiters.

We are Texas A&M in the SEC, I'm not as worried as I would be 2 years ago. Our brand recruits itself pretty well

whether you think that or not, Yates is our primary contact on a host of recruits. We have a lot to sell, but recruiting is still about relationships. Nick Harvey or Kendall Sheffield for instance may not see this as a no big deal thing.

But good for Marcel. He played at Boise and he's getting the chance to be a DC. He's a young guy and has a bright future.

This is bad.

Not only is he one of our top recruiters, but he actually coached up the defensive backs unlike that moron McMillan.

That is a selling point but if you think that is all we need to convince some of these kids to choose us you are sorely mistaken. A lot of these kids go where the coach they like best is and Yates was well liked but recruits.

Tough to lose him but this is what happens when you have promising young assistants who help win ball games. I'll be interested to see who we get to replace him. I liked Sumlin's initial staff but each replacement has been a big step down so far IMO

Banks has been a pretty decent hire imo

That's true. I was thinking more like McKinney and Hagen

I think Spav has been good too so I guess that wasn't really a fair comment. Hard to tell though.

I'm not going to argue really as I've been non-plussed by both but I've heard from someone that would most definitely know that Wally was not a good coach. The reason they were good last year had more to do with a pair of Sr NFL LBs and Nick Toth who developed them.

Not trolling, but I read he was the main recruiter for the big 3 that we were both competing for… any truth to this?

You may lose a couple but you shouldn't be worried about overall recruiting. big time school in THE big time conference. to quote 5* clifton garrett "Iwant to play with the big boys in the SEC". People shite on conference pride but there have been a TON of recruits who literally come out and say that playing in the SEC is a huge factor in their choice.

Im curious as to TAMU's next move. Do they lean heavy on an established recruiter as many of our conference teams seem to be doing or do the go toads finding the best DB coach they can find?

are y'all hearing anything at all as to who may be in consideration for the job?

I can't get a hold of anyone

Given Sumlin's history, I'd expect the hire to have heavy SE roots and likely to be a recruiting rock star. Basically everyone we've hired was the recruiting coordinator at their previous school. I also think he'll be a younger guy. I wouldn't be totally shocked if someone like the coach at Karr or St. Aug or JC were to come aboard but I don't know anything about any of them.

both Edna Karr or St aug coaches would be money for y'all. st aug is where tyrann mathieu and a lot more talented players went also. along with the obvious Fournette. Both schools are factories.

yeah, trying to get more info on Karr HC Nathaniel Jones in particular.

- DB coach at UTSA before going to Karr
- before going into the college ranks, he was a HS coach at Clark High School in New Orleans
- played for Karr and then went on to ULM where he was a team captain in '99
- 37 years old

Honestly it's Sumlin's type of resume even if it's a bit on the light side as I'm sure he'd prefer he have more college experience.

Someone on 247 just put up a Sumner-Gardner to Boise St. prediction.

wouldn't sweat that much. He committed before predictions so no one has any points on him. They get points for getting predictions right but don't lose any so there is no reason not to predict something on him (and you can't predict A&M)
