For the sake of dealing with one number, let's go with the $7.5 million figure. So, how much is $7.5 million a year in salary?
It's roughly 72 times more than Gov. Robert Bentley makes a year, if he took his salary, which he does not. It's 14 times more than what University of Alabama President Judy Bonner makes a year (the person who ostensibly is Saban's boss). It's three times more a year than what Auburn President Jay Gogue's total compensation is and in the last ranking of university president's pay, Gogue was number two on the list and the guy ahead of him no longer is in his job.)
It's 70 times more than the median average pay of lawyers in Jefferson County and 79 times more than lawyers in Montgomery and Mobile. It's only 67 times more than lawyers in Huntsville. Among family practice doctors in the metro Birmingham area, it's 44 times what they make in a year on average and 46 times more than Mobile doctors. It's 157 times more than the average teacher salary in Alabama.
Saban's latest salary is slightly less than twice the new pay day Auburn will pay head football coach Gus Malzahn.
And, finally, Saban's pay is 319 times more than the per capita income of Alabamians individually when looking at 2010 U.S. Census stats.

He's one of those dipshits that doesn't understand the concept of taking care of your cash cow. Giving Saban $7.5 million is a deal compared to what he brings in and contributes to education.

Yes, everyone should be paid exactly the same.
Why screw with Obama's socialism, when we can go straight to communism?

Compared to what he does for the Alabama economy and the university. Extremely. If he was paid what he's actually worth, he'd be making about $20 million a year at least

is that really all? I'd bet at least 1000 Alabamians would give up all their money for saban, on top of what he already makes. women's shelters should give a % to him as well.

I agree. Every year LSU gets a BCS caliber season, there is usually a great writeup about how much more money is coming in and how more and more students apply to the school. In fact, three of LSU's highest application totals were their national title years. The quality of students has risen tremendously, and football is at the front door of most major universities.
I can only imagine what Saban has done for Alabama. I am far more jealous about what he's done for UA academically than he has athletically

Birmingham is nothing but a shithole of a town past it's glory days and filled with a diverse arrangement of thugs from all races and colors. And I freaking live there.
Birmingham is good for nothing more than a laugh at how disgusting it is.

This column was guaranteed. Somebody had to be the idiot to write it.

Well, I can't think of a better indication than this that Saban is underpaid.

Bingo.
Alabama's in-state student population in 2007 was over 75%. It's now under 50%. And enrollment is at record highs. I guess this guy hasn't done the math to realize that increase in out-of-state tuition alone probably equals about 10x Saban's salary.
ETA: And Robert Witt has admitted that Saban is responsible for a substantial part of that increase.

And how much does he pay in taxes. And how much does he donate in charity. I would like to see that compared to the high and mighty Bham news columnist.

Lol. Speculating about what he should make is as idiotic as speculating about what he shouldn't make. He "should" make whatever the buyer is willing to pay. Compared to a fortune 500 CEO he is over paid.
