Led by the Fiesta Bowl and a combination of government and private groups, Glendale outbid New Orleans, Jacksonville, Fla., and Tampa for the 2016 College Football Playoff national championship game.

Tampa didn’t walk away a loser as it was awarded the 2017 game, beating out San Francisco, Miami, Jacksonville, San Antonio and Minneapolis. New Orleans did not bid on the 2017 game.

The only good thing about Glendale is that you can make a decent trip out of it if you do some driving. Stay in Scottsdale, spend a night in Sedona, spend a day or two in Vegas, etc.

So this whole thing will work like the Super Bowl from now on with cities bidding every year?

Yeah... and I think the diversity of championship sites is the best thing about the playoffs. I have grown tired of the same 4 sites over and over again

This makes me sad, Glendale is a boring, white bread city.

Tennessee Williams said it best....
“America has only three cities: New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans.
Everywhere else is Cleveland.”

AZ has the smallest stadium and the least to do. New Orleans is so much better imho.

I think there should be at least a 75,000 seat requirement to host the championship game.

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with colleges hosting it. I don't mean like Arkansas or Auburn, but colleges in bigger and reasonably decent cities to visit like Austin and Tallahassee. They could host a lot more people

Man, N.O. has personality. AZ has... racial profiling.

And Tampa? Ugh.

Also, no Krystal burger joints and far less oak trees.
