Only SEC team currently ranked in both football and men's basketball...your Missouri Tigers.

A lot of you should really try it, its fun, rather than this waiting until baseball season to be competitive in something again crap.

Florida was the king of football/hoops combined prowess in the SEC last year but Muschamp has taken such a dump on that this year that its impossible for them to repeat. Can Mizzou sustain its ranking this year and who else might join us as football/hoops actual balanced programs? LSU and Ole Miss seem like the only other legit candidates for this season so far...maybe Bama? Yes? No? Bueller?

Im looking forward to destroying yall in baseball this spring when we visit Columbia for the first time ever as an SEC opponent. (last year we only played in basketball in Starkville and didn't play against yall in football and played yall in Hoover at the SEC baseball tourney)

Im curious to when we will ever play yall in football.

Is Quinn Snyder still your coach?

No those days are long gone. Our new coach is Mike Anderson, former assistant to Nolan Richardson at Arkansas. We think he'll be a really dominant coach when it comes to road games.

All Joking aside, I stopped in Columbia for gas on my way to Omaha for the CWS last year. Nice city from what I could see would like to make the return trip for a football game in a few years.

Serious question moving forward... Is Mizzou going to be a better athletic program than Ole Miss? Mississippi is a better talent base, but Mizzou seems to beat it in almost every other area. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out across all sports.

Yeah I want to play you guys bad too, my best buddy in law school was an MSU Bulldog who now lives in Forest, MS so it would be a lot of fun for us for Mizzou to finally get to Starkville for a game. Funny thing about my buddy - he got accepted to Yale out of high school but all his buddies went to East Central junior college in MS so he did too, then transferred to MSU his last two years. Suffice to say he's one of the most legendary students and debate team members in East Central's history.

It only matters if you do something with it. Outside of the fan bases most remember 2012 Mizzou BB just the same as 2012 AU BB.

Sounds similar to one of my best friends he went to Co-Lin CC for his first 2 years out of HS after being Valedictorian at a big HS and could have gone essentially anywhere ended up going to Ole Miss and then Law school there after his first year he felt like he wasn't being challenged enough he transferred to University of Virginia and graduated in the top 10% of his class. He now is a big lawyer in DC.

The funny thing about MS junior colleges is that you can literally RACK UP on scholarship that you get in pocket if you choose to go there for your first two years out of HS. Then if you graduated with a 3.5 in state schools also give you a big chunk of scholarship money as well to stay in state

I wouldn't discount the amount of talent that comes out of St.Louis and Kansas City yearly. Those are bigger metro areas than anything in MS and it shows by the numerous programs who recruit them. On balance the talent from rural areas in MS is probably more abundant than the talent in rural MO, but we do get a lot of talent from smaller areas in-state too (Kony Ealy one of our star defensive ends projected as a first round pick this year is from little New Madrid Missouri, most of our good offensive line is from small towns in northern Missouri etc). Now as a region when you factor in Ole Miss' proximity to Louisiana/Alabama/Memphis etc then yeah they should be better situated.

I don't know how it will actually play out but I think Ole Miss is one of the programs in the SEC that Mizzou certainly hopes and expects to compete with in all phases. There are some programs a la Bama where you at least mark off football and say OK hard as we try its probably not realistic to overtake them there but we can try in other areas. Other programs you certainly make it a goal to compete with in everything. For Mizzou I'd put Ole Miss in that category and, not to be inflammatory but just based on the past 15 years or so of shared experience in the Big 12, I'd tend to put A&M in that category too - for now anyway.

If y'all are a basketball school, you're a pretty sorry one.

We make NCAA tournaments frequently, and make bowl games frequently. That's what I'd define as a football-basketball combo school. We are competitive in both, elite in neither. But it makes both football and basketball season more fun because we tend to be a factor in both, rather than being only good-elite at one of them and then sucking sewer water in the other, a la Auburn or Kentucky. That be my point.
