There will be 28 graduates on the Crimson Tide’s roster when Alabama plays Oklahoma in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2 in New Orleans, including 17 that earned degrees this semester

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - More than 30 University of Alabama student-athletes are slated to receive their degrees Saturday, Dec. 14, when UA holds its winter commencement at Coleman Coliseum.

A total of 19 football players are set to receive their degrees Saturday, including 17 on this year’s roster including:

Deion Belue
John Fulton
Daniel Geddes
Adrian Hubbard
Brandon Ivory
Wilson Love
Cody Mandell
C.J. Mosley
Kevin Norwood
Anthony Orr
Nick Perry
Ed Stinson
M.K. Taylor
Matt Tinney
DeAndrew White
Jarrick Williams
Kellen Williams.

Norwood and Kellen Williams both earned their Master’s degrees this semester.

Overall, there will be 28 graduates on the Crimson Tide’s roster when it plays Oklahoma in the All State Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 2, in New Orleans.

All-American and 1999 Outland Trophy winner Chris Samuels, a six-time Pro Bowl player for the NFL’s Washington Redskins, is also slated to graduate on Saturday. Ben Howell, a member of the 2012 squad, is also set to graduate Saturday.

I had no idea Norwood had already finished his Master's and good for Chris Samuels for going back to graduate.

Congratulations and Roll Tide, fellas!

Amazing that some of these players are finishing in 3.5 years while being important players on the top football program in the country.

CJ Mosley being one of the top rated players in the country and still working his butt off to finish a degree in three and a half years.

Congrats to them all and Roll Tide.

I wouldn't say it's that impressive to graduate in 3.5 years. I mean they have to do summer classes each year so if they are taking any kind of course load during the spring and fall, you'd almost expect it. Plus they should have no trouble passing with all the help they receive.

Maybe he can go out and earn his stripes as a collegiate coach and come back and be our OL coach some day.

Congrats to all the student athletes who walked today. Getting it done on the field and in the classroom.

I think you are very wrong in your statement regarding that it's NOT impressive that these kids graduate in 3.5 years. How many kids graduate in 3.5 years that have a full time job plus going to school? Show some respect!

In this hypothetical, do these kids have full time tutors who complete their homework and online assignments for them as well as have athletic personnel that talk to professors if grades aren't up to par? Because that's the only way your retort holds any semblance of value.

ETA: I also never said it wasn't impressive. I just said it's not THAT impressive to use the word amazing to describe it.

can you link where the tutor does their work for them..cuz i think the tutor gives them class room type instruction in a home work type setting. I think you border on being imbagent,

I can't link conversations I also can't link the classes I've been in where players were allowed to just lie down in the back of classrooms while the professor taught. I also can't link where I've seen players be given special scantrons for their tests.

And I'm not saying they don't deserve the help they get. Do whatever it takes to keep them eligible. I just don't think with all the "help" they're given and going to school during the summer that it's that impressive to graduate in 3.5 years.

most should graduate in 3-4 years but I think during FB season they are allowed to take say around 6-8 hours so if this is the case then I can see how most would need 4-5 years

I thought everyone had to take 12 hours to be eligible in undergrad and 9 hours for grad school? During the summer I'm sure they only have to take 6 or 9 hours though.

Must complete a minimum of 6 hours per semester as they have 5 years to get a degree so this link shows it. Maybe half way down the page

Hm. I stand corrected. I know the 5 year eligibility window doesn't start until they become full time students though. That's how greyshirts are able to take <12 hours in the fall without it counting against their 5 years of eligibility.
