Both these teams convinced the country that they were clearly the best. They won every game up to their last, and then saw everything taken away suddenly in an ending they just didn't expect to happen.

I think I understand a little how LSU fans felt. I'm not angry, just sort of a slow ache, knowing that my team accomplished so much and still believing we are the best, but no national title. I guess the big difference is that we have no complaint about how ours ended, while they are bitter about the fact they had to play us again.

2011 LSU and 2013 Bama - two teams that arguably could beat many of the other BCS era champions, but will have to go down as a good team that just couldn't get it finished.

Have you compared the two schedules? Yeah, you should change your mind after that.

LSU had already beaten a gauntlet of highly ranked opponents, Bama's best win was a 3-loss LSU team in a down year.

Not even close. You have no clue how horrible the ending of the 2011 season was.

Well, it does suck to lose to the team and the coach you want to beat the most.

But the situations aren't quite comparable. We had the whole Jordan Jefferson debacle. That our team won as many games as it did that year had more to do with staunch defense and the insane playmaking ability of a certain Hon E. Bager.

schedules were waaaay different

2011 LSU was better than 2013 Bama

It's close because Bama is consistently good, but I'd give the nod to '11 Tigahs

All of that is true. LSU had one of the toughest schedules of any BCS contender ever.

There are plenty of differences. Just thought it was an interesting feeling - it's sort of empty. I know they have to feel the same way (or at least did).

this

my only solace, to this day, is that the football gods will one day right this wrong. I mean they have to, right?

correct

not to mention 1/9 looked like a COMPLETELY different team than all season

I'm the conspiracy theorist that thinks there had to be some locker room drama going on

To be clear, I don't think that's why bama won, but I do think it's why LSU looked like a D2 school in the game

I didn't feel 'empty'

I felt like fricking raging on someone and then driving myself off a cliff with Les Miles and Jordan Jefferson tied arse-to-face in my trunk

I know what you're saying. Most people here don't care about the World Cup, but 1998 Brazil was the same story. They had one of the alltime great teams and should have blown France off the field, but looked completely lethargic and it wasn't even close. A lot of speculation behind what happened.

The offensive issues were always there.

The games against Bama in 2011 were an all out defensive war. Both teams had great defenses but all the warts in our offense were fully exposed on 1/9.

I'm just hoping Jennings turns out to be the real deal. I don't miss the Jefferson/Lee era offensive issues one bit.

Classy post by you, anyway. Appreciate the empathy. The 1/9 game and the fact that Miles didn't give Jarrett Lee ANY playing time has made me less than enthusiastic about Les.

Yea and I really don't think we could have beaten bama twice in a year anyways, which was why I was pissed that we were forced to, but I do think LSU not crossing the goddamn 50 yard line is uncharacteristic of that team, leading me to think there were issues.

I mean it's feasible with the whole QB controversy.

Lee had us at 8-0 and then was brought in to take the VICTORY KNEE against UGA in the SECCG.

I mean...wtf

frick this

Now I'm thinking all about it again

It's reasonable to wonder why Lee didn't get a shot, but I doubt he would've looked any better. He really never looked well against Alabama in his career.

So you're saying y'all will lose to Oklahoma? Because technically that's bama's last game.
