Let me start off by stating I think Mason is a pretty good back. But without the #'s and attention of the SEC title game, is he even a Heisman candidate?
Were they just lacking for candidates this year?

I personally think his #'s are a product of the offense. Without the Gus spread does he even have 1000 yards? I don't think anyone was talking about Mason 3 weeks ago. At all.

probably not.

Only becuase his performance at teh SECCG was what really made him stand out to those outside of the state of alabama.

I agree. Because he plays in an offense that runs the ball he gets a lot of carries and more carries equals more yards. If you mean something other than that, like you could put anyone there and have the same result, then i strongly disagree.

Maybe not.

I think his "Heisman" moment was the absolute BEAT DOWN he laid on that Ruffian defense in the SECCG. If they don't win the Iron Bowl, he don't get his Heisman moment.

I think that's your answer.

It's the plight if the Heisman Trophy now. If you had a solid enough season and play out of your mind, against solid competition, on the final two weeks of the season you will be in NYC. In 2011, many thought Trent Richardson might pull it off until RG3 had a phenomenal end of the season. Mark Ingram won in 2009 because of his performance against Florida.

without Louis catching that pass against UGA, we don't go to the SECCG (regardless of whether Davis runs the FG back to beat Bama)... which means a one loss Bama is playing FSU for the BCSNC in a month.

Actually no, plenty of names came up during the season that still went on to do okay. But finishing strong is a key to the Heisman.

No, but without x or y system no running back would. Tre spent a good majority of his time running up the middle behind the blockers which is hardly just a 'Gus' thing. And systems don't automatically give you 22 touchdowns.

Why should he be penalized because his numbers were a product of the offense? 1600 yards isn't some kind of accident.

This "system RB" stuff is garbage. You can't hide talent at RB. You're good or you're not. Mason had a 1000 yard season in 2012 behind a team that had quit. He's legit.

However, you need the late september/october hype to get anywhere in the heisman race.

Which is why I said you would need at least a solid season to that point. A starting platorm, if you will.

It's not garbage. RB is one of the least important positions on offense.

You should take a look at his stats on last year's 3-9 team maybe then, eh?

Dude, Mason got 1000 yds in the trash Auburn called an offense last year. He is legit.

Can you imagine how many losses Auburn would have if we had to throw 45 times a game? Without Mason, or a comparable RB, no one would respect the read option and Auburn would be a completely different team

especially after that Ruffian defense shut down the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Mason looked that much better.

He'd start over Yeldon and Drake. He's the best of both of them. Power and vision of Yeldon and the speed and cutting ability of Drake.
