In the playoffs if SEC West and East champs are in the top 4 knocking one of them off in the SECCG invites another conference in....

Danm! Finally a good thread!
Probably yes, especially if we go to a 9 game schedule.

It was in 2001. Other than 2001, has any national championship contender got knocked out because of SECCG?

I actually think the committee thing will frick over the SEC more than help. It will probably guarantee an SEC playing in the playoffs, but there will most likely never be 2 SEC teams in the playoffs together.

If the committee picks were this year, I could see Alabama getting the nod over the SEC champ this year.

#1 Alabama was knocked out of the national championship picture in 2008, #1 Florida was knocked out of the national championship picture in 2009, and #3 Georgia was knocked out of the national championship picture just last year.

It certainly can be an unfair situation. The loser has been screwed several times in their bowl game invites by winning their side of the conference and playing an extra game.

Northern Illinois is the latest victim of a conference championship ruining an entire season.

MSU and Duke have their opportunities today.

Doesnt seem fair to penalize success, but that does happen in these conference championship games more times than not.

I think with the SEC may having more depth next year and as we continue to eat our own it may help as well. We could easily see no undefeated teams again next year with the SECCG pushing the winner into the playoffs. It could occasionally knock 1 out but I think it will always ensure we get one in. JMO

No because I'm sure Bama wioukd find it's way in along with the SEC champ this year.
So, yeah the loser will probably drop out, but someone who goes 11-1 with their only loss being to the other team who won the division, will probably get the benefit.
