I know the traditional powers have been struggling lately. With that said...

If Florida was #4 and Tennesee was #8

and....

Scar and Mizzou were in their(Fla and Tenn's) respective positions currently, with all other east teams the same as they are now, would the east still be considered down??

Not looking it up but I would say 2 teams in the top 8 is pretty consistent for the east, if not better than most years. It's just not the teams everyone is used to.

*I posted a similar question in a thread earlier, but the rant got busy and it got lost in the shuffle. Interested in opinions.

The answer to your question is yes. It's the same in recruiting, and it's been mentioned before that, when one recruit is committed to one program not considered a traditional power, then decommits and recommits to said traditional power, we often see their star ratings rise - some times drastically.

Now, there is another factor involved with the East being perceived as down and that is the West factor ... meaning the East cannot seem to beat the West in Atlanta. Last year was a good example where there were three Top Ten teams from the East in the Top Ten by season's end, (Georgia, Florida and SCAR), yet it was still claimed that the East was down.

So we probably perceive strengths of divisions based upon final outcomes, bowl wins, championship wins, etc.

Agreed. It's the traditional powers that might be having a down year. But the division as a whole isn't down when 2 teams out of 7 are in the top 10.
