I'm looking to travel somewhere in the Southeast for New Years Eve. Any suggestions on cities? I've started looking into New Orleans, Savannah, and Atlanta. I sort of have the poors so I don't want anything too expensive. I'm taking the lady friend by the way.

Depends on what you are looking for. I'd definitely say NOLA or ATL for the party. If you are just looking for somewhere nice that you can see some interesting stuff, I'd say Savannah.

NOLA and Savannah both offer a historic district and have some nice things to see. Savannah is a bit more low key and while it does have some tourist trap type things, it isn't nearly as bad as NOLA.

ATL is huge, has shitty traffic, will be packed, but it will arguably have the largest variety of things to do just because of how big the place is. It will likely also have the largest New Years scene of the 3 places.

If you are looking for a nice get away with things to see and do, I'd recommend NOLA or Savannah. NOLA being a bigger party and more touristy area than Savannah, but still a lot of fun and definitely worth it at least once. Savannah is a bit calmer and more low key, but has some really nice history to see.

If you are looking for the biggest New Year's festivities, I'd say ATL followed by NOLA.

NOLA, hands down. Great restaurants, beautiful city, lots of places to drink and, if you are staying in the quarter, you don't have to drive anywhere.

Damn, if we're not in Pasadena, I hope/pray we will be in the Sugar Bowl.

There are all inclusive New Years Eve parties at a lot of bars and clubs in Atlanta for about $100 or less a pop that includes unlimited premium drinks, food, and shite.

Why would anyone in their right mind visit the state of Mississippi? ATL, NOLA, and Savannah are decent options for a party, but not Mississippi.

Unless, of course, you're joking. Then carry on.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. It looks like I am deciding between NOLA and ATL.

Although Jackson might be making a late run.

It's kind of a gamble. On the one hand you might get robbed and shot; on the other you might just have the time of your life (whatever's left of it)

I recommend this place

Thing is, Athens is a college town. Fun when school is in session, but around Xmas, when UGA is not in session, its a bit boring.

I can recommend Charleston SC as well as a nice historic place, with a nice market street etc.

Charleston, SC. Market Street ... but you'd better make reservations now.

Athens is actually pretty keyed up on New Years. nothing like ATL, but school starts on Jan 6 and most students that don't live in the dorms (meaning the ones that can legally drink anyway) are back in town and ready to make up for lost drinking time.
