The final play: Saban wasn't out-coached. Bama was out-executed.

Guy on CFB Daily just made this point.

It's the only correct observation.

The arguement can be made that Saban should have used better coverage personal

Saban fricking blew that game.

Gus didn't so much out coach him.

It's not either/or. They can both be true. If the kicking team wasn't properly coached on how to handle that situation then they won't execute correctly.

Pretty sure you are saying he got out coached.

It's the coach's job to put players in a position to execute effectively. By electing to attempt a 57 yard field goal with an un-tested kicker, Saban made a coaching decision that did NOT put the players in a position to execute effectively.

Therefore, the last play's result is all on Saban.

I can assure you that Bama players are "properly coached."

I mean. Its a little bit of both.

I dont think you can place the blame solely on anyone. You lose as a team, you win as a team.

Should we have put Griffith in to kick the 33 yard FG? Yes.

Should Arie K. not have false started? Yes.

It goes both ways. All we can do is learn from it.

Somewhat, yes. The players just watched the play go through the air, rather than getting into position.

you would have thought coach would have told them before the kick what to do. they even had extra time with the timeout

It's not completely ridiculous to try a GW FG...but when the fastest guy on the kicking team is the kicker..it's a no brainer.

We had a better shot of AJ completing a 39-yard pass than of making that kick. That's not a hail mary. I was saying that before the kick.

I have more issue with that than with the coverage.

Auburn held the clear competitive advantage at the end. Gus Malzahn knew this, took the timeout, put Chris Davis back there to return the ball, and the rest is history. Did you see all of the offensive and defensive linemen Alabama had on the field? There was no way Adrian Hubbard, Cody Mandell, or Ed Stinson was going to catch a defensive back.
