not letting him bring his staff and ending up with Dooley.

Discuss.

I'll go with Tennessee because he was the difference when Fulmer brought him back as OC and when he left they went to crap.

Tennessee letting Cutcliffe leave and replacing him with Randy Sanders

Dynamic Trio
Fulmer: Elite recruiter
Cutcliffe: Elite OC
Chavis: Elite DC

Too early to tell... You know we only went to 1 bowl with Eli starting at QB right ?

I would love to see him finish the dream season this weekend. Couldn't happen to a better guy.

The firing of Cut was somewhat needed.

He wouldn't make coaching staff changes that were obviously needed, he had almost completely stopped recruiting, he had numerous health problems and he had pretty much lost the team.

Firing Cut wasn't as bad as some make it out to be.

Plus, didn't Cutcliffe like stop recruiting and run into some health problems? I can't remember specifics, but I always hear from my OM brethren (I'm from east Arkansas, which is partly OM country) that some of the reasons for getting rid of Cutcliffe were understandable (not that health problems are grounds for termination).

Tennessee would be fine if they brought in Cutcliffe. Ole Miss is Ole Miss no matter who coaches there.

Agreed. I don't know why people make out Cutcliffe's firing to be some awful turning point for Ole Miss' program. They just crapped the bed with the Coach O hire, but he left a ton of talent that Nutt turned into 2 Cotton Bowl wins, and now they seem to have a pretty decent coach who is also a hell of a recruiter.

It's nothing compared to Tennessee firing Fulmer.

Nah, they got rid of him b/c they thought they were a Big 6 program and they could go out and get any top coach in the country. So they went and got Coach O.

He was fired because he was literally not doing his job.

Both programs made huge mistakes ... but it's worked-out well for Cutcliffe in the end. Good for him.

Ole Miss made the worse mistake of the two, by far, imho.

Forget about the 02 Indy bowl against Nebraska?

And in 01 we went 7-4 and got snubbed for a 6-5 Alabama we had beaten that year.

For perspective Cutcliffe record at OM

1998: 1-0 Win Indy Bowl
1999: 8-4 #22 Win Indy Bowl
2000: 7-5 Loss Music City Bowl
2001: 7-4 No Bowl
2002: 7-6 Win Indy Bowl
2003: 10-3 (7-1 SEC) #13 Win Cotton Bowl
2004: 4-7

scrooster if you are talking 2007 it wasn't bs. It was basically flip a coin and take a crappy team that tanked. Both were 6-6. Bama had lost 4 straight and USC 5 straight. Not the same as 01 OM.

But in both cases, its friggin Shreveport. Who gives a frick?
