so do stars matter or not? earlier you're touting all the 5 star talent on defense
Posted on 12/1/13 at 3:03 pm to Latarian
no thats not what im saying at all. he said sumlin doesnt develop. im saying being able to bring in big time recruits DO matter, but to say sumlin doesnt develop players is ridiculous

Yea, letting a guy run around and throw it to a 7'4" receiver is development.
Who has he developed? He's sure good a winning with inherited player. Keenum, JF, Evans, Joeckel, Matthews, etc.

Losing our OC didn't matter at all, folks. It was literally all Sumlin sucking.

You are bragging about having so much money...why not use it to keep Kliff?
Posted on 12/1/13 at 3:08 pm to Gradual_Stroke
did it matter? Ags didn't seem too concerned in preseason about losing KK

I'm also curious to know which players Sumlin has developed. Manziel regressed this year and the defense was atrocious.
A 10-2 team with a Heisman winner shouldn't go 8-4 with that schedule. People were picking A&M to play in the national championship based on their schedule and Manziel alone.

Manziel, aside from his last two games where he had a broken thumb, has much better passing numbers than last year. Much better. I don't know if Sumlin is great at developing talent, but I haven't seen evidence to the contrary.

Worst ranked defense to win a BCS title was Auburn in 2010, and they were 50 something. You don't win a natty with a defense ranked in the 100s. It just isn't possible.

Still a kneejerk reaction. We tied the record for most 40+ point games. It hasn't been pretty the last two games, but I'd still say the offense was incredibly potent. I don't know what Kliff would have done differently. I guess we should have won that Auburn game, or maybe the Mizzou game, and maybe we wouldn't have given up 35 straight against Bama without scoring, but I don't really know what Kliff would have done differently.

Lol at the trite flaming from Hogs.
We can't take you seriously when you just paid $5M in salary and buyout for the privilege of going winless in the SEC.
Sumlin couldn't help the abysmal defensive roster. But nevertheless the defense began to improve toward the end of the year. It was more than serviceable last night and last week despite starting 4 true fish in the front seven. And had we done offensively what we had the 13 or so games prior, we beat both LSU and Mizzou.
And LOL at JFF being worse. 15 days ago many considered him the Heisman favorite despite dealing with the presumption against repeating and being almost universally hated, all while having to score more than 40 per game to win.
As it turns out, even JFF is affected by injuries
I know. Shocking.
After two seasons Sumlin will have produced 4 All-Americans in 2012 and 3 in 2013. He was the COY last year, and he's recruiting at a clip the likes of which Arky will never experience.
There's a reason USC offered him $6M this year, and why AU begged him to interview last year right after the Eagles offered him the reigns to the Phily gig.
He's an elite coach.

JFF factor prevents a discernible offensive scheme and you know it.
I don't think that is true. If anything your line and the fact that he often had to play catch up since your D was sorry made him play the way he did at times.

Losing your QB, WR, and your OL
Unless both Cedric Ogbuehi and Jarvis Harrison declare for the draft, we return 3 starters, the same number we did last season when Joeckel declared.
The only senior O-line starter is Jake Matthews.
If BOTH Harrison and Ogbuehi come back, we return 4 starters on the O-line and the starting lineup is:
LT - Ogbuehi (SR: 3-year starter)
LG - Harrison (SR: 3-year starter)
C - Matthews (JR: 1-year starter)
RG - Ifedi (SO: 1-year starter)
RT - Eluemunor (JR: JUCO recruit)
If Harrison (the most likely of the two to leave) leaves:
LT - Ogbuehi (SR: 3-year starter)
LG - Gennessy (JR: JUCO recruit)
C - Matthews (JR: 1-year starter)
RG - Ifedi (SO: 1-year starter)
RT - Eluemunor (JR: JUCO recruit)
If BOTH leave:
LT - Eluemunor (JR: JUCO recruit)
LG - Gennessy (JR: JUCO recruit)
C - Matthews (JR: 1-year starter)
RG - Ifedi (SO: 1-year starter)
RT - Cheek (JR: 1st Olineman off the bench the last 2 seasons)

he's an elite coach that's never won a conference championship or been to a BCS game amirite?
