The Rant was absolutely ate up with Sumlin leaving for USC. While I'm sure y'all enjoyed the troll factor, every non-Ag was convinced he'd leave.

Congrats on your recruiting rankings.

My point is that he may prove himself to be great, but you don't give $5M to someone until they've actually done something elite.

K. You guys still haven't discerned the difference between good/great/GOAT and overrated. They're very different concepts.

He's a hot name and you locked him down- I get it, but he hasn't yet proven he's a $5M worthy coach. He may be one, but you guys are paying an awful lot for upside and hype that may or may not materialize into him earning that paycheck.

recruiting obviously matters and is a dick measuring contest typically, but recruiting alone doesn't get you 5 mil

I'm not saying he's a bad coach. He's just not worth 5 mil, yet. Gene Chizik was an expensive mistake. He was a great recruiter, also.

This is money well spent. Anybody who thinks otherwise isn't paying attention.

Sumlin clearly doesn't deserve that kinda money

maybe Sumlin doesn't deserve that kinda money, but A&M has it and is willing

i think $5 mill was too much. but he has more than deserved an extension. im also not a big fan of giving 6 years to anyone because shite can change so fast and i dont think anyone should be tied down to one person for too long but sumlin more than deserved and extension and a raise. 5 mill is too much

If you want to play with the big boys, you pay with the big boys. That's what we did. We've got the heavy wallets, and we used them.

Other fans' recognition of this is what triggers the responses you've seen.

No one really thought TAMU had the resources it does. We were dismissed as some obscure cow college known only for not being the Texas Longhorns.

But now they know we're fricking serious. This makes them nervous. So they characterize the raise as impulsive and stupid.

The whole thing is awfully transparent.

Can't wait for all the "We pay this guy $5 million a year for this shite?" next season.

Look what happened at Houston when Sumlin lost his QB. Total shite show.

USC offered him the fricking world. That will come to light this week.

We had to do this to keep him from being a Trojan.

This sums it up nicely.

I agree.

Hey, guys, pay him if you like, but making him the 3rd or whatever highest paid coach doesn't mean he's the 3rd best coach in the conference.

And before someone tries to derail my conversation, I don't believe Malzahn belongs in that pay bracket yet, either.

I wonder if Aggy fans know that Sumlin has never won a conference title in his entire career.
