I saw you have the Sims logo and someone brought that up in a thread. Where do you live and what type of fly fishing do you do. I bought a cheap starter set in March and have been addicted ever since. I live in Irmo, SC, but just fished the Chatooga two weeks ago for the first time. I fish Saluda, Irmo,SC- Chatooga, Mountain Rest SC and the Davidson in Brevard NC.

What stretch of the Chattooga?

ETA: The best site for flyfishing and the Chattooga is www.ngto.org

Members can be tight lipped and there are alot of unspoken rules about posting fishing information, but if you use the search function about the Chattooga you can find literally thousands of great topics going back to the late 90's since that site has existed.

You need 3 flies for the Chattooga.

1: blue wing olive, smaller the better, sunset hatch

2: bead head prince or bead head hare's ear for the deeper holes

3: bead head soft hackle for drifting through riffles and allowed to swing out into still water below and "pulse"

I retired from all this shite years ago, I'm back to Panther Martins. I will not tell you my panther martin secrets.

We were fishing the spot right above and below the HWY 28 bridge. You have Oconee Co.,SC to your left and Rabun Co. Ga to your right. I caught one SNIT- standard nine inch trout on a Y2K flie that someone gave me. Thanks for all the advice.

I live in Sandy Springs. The past four years I've been lucky enough to get out to Bozeman, MT to float the Yellowstone and Madison as well as wading the streams inside Yellowstone and hitting Trout lake. It's usually a camping/fishing excursion that my dad and I like to do. I haven't gotten to fish Ga all that much recently. When we do I'll float the Chattahoochee near my house. In the spring and early summer we'll use caddis and white mayflies. Anything below the surface is up to you.

ETA: My dad likes to wade the Soque River up north of Cornelia.

Yea, I am heading back to the Chatooga in February with our local TU chapter. I got a few flies from a local fly shop for the February trip. Trying to plan that out right now.

What kind of flies are you gonna try? Dries? Using indicators? Love dry fly fishing when they'll come to the surface. Most fun type of fishing IMO.

I Bought a golden retriever, a carolina peach and a neon streamer that is supposed to work well. Using mainly dry flies and a couple of streamers. I just started fly fishing in March of this year so I am learning a lot. There's a shop there at the foot of the mountians called Chatooga fly, yea I know original. They always give you good tips on what they are biting and my buddy knows a guide up there and he'll give me some info also.

Good deal. That's definitely the best way to go. The local fly shop knows what's hatching, what flies will work in what areas, etc...
