With HM in the game...
quote:

“We were really spread the whole night,” Bobo said of Georgia’s 59-17 win against Kentucky. “We felt spreading them out was the way to go. We tried to get a one (linebacker) box and make their safeties tackle. When Hutson’s in there, he’s a little bit more of a spread guy and we did a little bit more of what he could do. He did a nice job.”

I don't love that with our RBs moving forward into 2014

I doubt it's gonna hurt the running game, prolly help it spreading out the "D". Looked like Bobo likes to throw to the TE's more with HM. We threw more TE slant passes vs KY than we have thrown all year combined , prolly due to Mason having a lil less arm strength but a quicker read & delivery than Murray. I think we'll look more like the '01-'04 offense with Mason.

Impossible, Bobo can't adjust. At least that's what people on here will tell you.

This surprises me. My perception of Mason is that he is less mobile than Murray. Just checked Rivals. Mason is listed with a 4.89 40 yard dash; Murray is listed at 4.84 so they are about the same.

Especially given CMR's comparisons of HM to David Greene.

Well, Bobo doesnt have a choice but to go spread with a QB like Mason. Ya gota fit your system to the QB, or the QB to the system and lets face it, Mason won't have the cannon to go full pro style. You say you will like it with our RBs in it more often, but I didn't like the Kentucky game offense. It worked, but for some reason I just wasn't as satisfied seeing Gurley recieving all night rather than running the ball. Anybody else get that?

I think Gurley has really stepped up his game as a receiver, and whatever it takes to get the ball into his hands, make it so. Last season, Marshall struck me as the better receiver, but TGII has improved significantly in that aspect this season.

I'm guessing Bobo meant more spread sets with lotta WR/TE in motion, not so much HM running the zone read etc. HM's still a pocket passer but he can roll out...

Gurley's gonna go #1 if he keeps catchin' the ball like he has... Bobo gon make him a billionaire...

THIS. The NFL is steadily moving more toward backs who can also play a bigger part in the receiving game. Helps with durability, too, when they aren't just pounding it up the middle 25-30 times a game.

Idc if they snap it to Morgan and he runs backwards 20 yds and kicks it to him just get him the ball

I'd rather see TGII get his 150yds on 12 carries & 6 receptions vs 27 carries & 1 rec...Less chance for injuries & we have good depth now & will have GREAT depth next year w/ KM back & adding Nick & Sony...

Plus if it's a game where we need that 7 minute march to close it out, TG is fresh...

Getting Gurley and Marshall the ball through the air will get the one on one with Safties and CBs more next year you could see both of them have 4-5 50+ yard TD catches by making shitty tacklers in the secondary miss. I like the idea of alitte more spread but still having the ability to pound the rock close to the goaline. That is normally an opition spread teams don't have unless you have a beast at QB, some wildcat with Gurley and Marshall on the field wouldn't be bad either.

Don't think we have much to worry about either way. This isn't gonna be some type of big philosophy change or overhaul of the offense. We're just gonna incorporate some of the spread elements to enhance Masons strengths & minimize his weaknesses....

shite, these things are what we've bitched about Bobo not doing in the past... not making adjustments to the strengths of the personnel on the field...

Hell, I applaud Bobo...

I know these next two games will give Mason much needed experience in preparation of next year, but do you guys think that out weighs the impact it will have in giving the competition game footage for planning against Mason next season?

Is this a serious question?

We're also gonna have WR's coming out of our arse next year...gonna be the deepest we've ever had and maybe the deepest in the country.

I haven't read all the responses but those who think this will negatively affect Georgia, come on. First, as has been stated, this matches Mason's skill set. UGA has spent enough time trying to ram a round peg in a square hole, I for one applaud Bobo and the staff for knowing what makes Mason tick by now. Second, those who whine about our run game being affected, come on. Georgia lining up with a FB, extra TE, or w/e bunched formation we were using did us no favors to begin with. Murray could make the throws but when it comes to running Georgia never, and I mean never, maintains control of the LOS. Spreading these teams out at least gives our mediocre OL a little less to handle and it gives the backs a helluva lot more options.

If executed right this could be fantastic and I love when Bobo makes me happy. I have been begging for more spread formations for years as well as the pistol and he acquiesced and I almost cried. Now he's setting up Georgia as it is, not how some of our fans may wish it would be.

I am most curious about what our OL splits will be, if any different, and if their fat asses can handle being on their own. Methinks Mason is going heavily rely on quick passes and basically what Murray did 2nd half vs AU will be his modus operandi. I am excited for the changes.
