While talking I had no idea who she was but she was asking a lot of questions about what I thought of the program (this was at work mind you). I had mentioned that 3 coaches in three years will mess with a player's identity/progression and that Belima will get things on the right track. She agreed. She had also mentioned fans jumping off the deep end and how they could say such horrible things about the players on the web. I told her they do so because they don't have to be accountable for their statements or actions unlike her son. I'm not going to ask anyone to censor themselves but I am going to do my damnedest to try to not trash a player individually.

P.S. It was the mother of a player that scored a touchdown Saturday. I will not reveal the player or their parents.

ETA: Was it Jervonte Herndon?

Can't say but I've talked shite about some players, and as a parent, I couldn't imagine how sad it would make me to see people bashing my child in any instance.

Hard to score when you touch the ball 2 times a game.

Well, when you do get one, try not to fumble the game winning TD inside the 10-yd line.

Eta: He leads the team in carries by like 50, so that's just a stupid statement.

Trashing a player is different from criticizing. If these men don't want to be criticized then give his scholarship to someone else.

Good or bad these guys chose to be public figures. They live like rockstars and do so as publicly as possible then don't understand that someone doesn't like them out there 100% of the time. Welcome to the real world.

Fans shouldn't be petty but come on its going to happen, happens everywhere

I expected this thread to be:
"Dear Arkansas forum, I met a players Mom yesterday. I normally wouldn't have said hi, but we made eye contact, and she started unbuttoning her blouse..."

Sorry, I digress. I agree, if we (as a fan base) get too much of a reputation for bashing players when they're down - no one will want to help rebuild the program.

Trashing

That's what I'm saying, I think I may be guilty of a occasionally trashing a player or two as have others. Look at my statement as a new years resolution if you will.

My question is what did the players expect from fans after going on the longest losing streak in school history?

This generation expects to be patted on the head and told "good try buddy, you'll get them next time."

This thread has nothing to do with the players. I was just expressing my embarrassment of my lack of tact and how a players mother asked me how some people can be so cruel.

I personally blame the feneration that raised us this way. I'd like to take responsibility but it wasnt my allowance spent on participation trophies

giving a kid some shite on twitter and egging a care aren't malicious acts so much as they are high school drama type moves. Cruel would be the people out there doing actually evil things like blowing up buildings kidnapping people shooting up schools that is cruel. This is petty bullying at best.

a mom is going to be a mom regardless- we can say they are men but they are always going to be their mommas babies.

i'm the first person to say they are men and they don't need to be coddled but i generally mean that when they get in trouble not in regards to just not playing well. if the guy is giving effort (which i didn't watch but maybe 5 minutes of the game saturday so i can't even really speak for that) then i try not to comment on the fact that they suck. it's not so much about them being kids or men at that point it's about them being a member of my team.

that's not to say i'm right that's just to say how i am.

Not saying that they need to be coddled or that everyone is soft or anything else. I'm saying that now that I've made a connection between a family and a player I will TRY to do my best not to personally bash anyone on the team. I don't terribly give a shite what anyone else says about anyone I was just reaffirming that I will do my best not to.

Good we need more fans like you and less crazy ones.

I'm curious to see what BB says about all this. Going to be hard for hom to have any high ground considering him and jens twitter history
