Missouri in Cotton?

Anyone think with their proximity and former B12 ties it could happen if they lose the SECCG?

The Mizzou-Arkansas Cotton Bowl in 2008 sold out faster than any other Cotton Bowl on record. They like us, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility. However, the tradition of generally taking an SEC West team will probably win out. It's hard to see them not taking either LSU or A&M if either is available.

Meh. We got hosed by the Texas-centric tendencies of the Cotton, Alamo and Texas Bowls in the Big 12 routinely. In 2010 we won in College Station by a score of like 30-9, had a better overall record then them, but yet the Aggies were taken by the Cotton Bowl and we got shipped off to Phoenix.
I'm told the SEC is more fair about that sort of stuff with respect to bowl selections, but I'll believe it when I see it. It still comes down to ticket sales and TV ratings for each bowl game's sponsors, and having a local school with a large alumni base/viewership is always optimal for them.

If Mizzou wants to make the cotton, they will want to lose to aggy next weekend.
The Cap One and Chic-fil-a bowl loves to snatch up the SEC CG loser.

With our defense and the spread offenses in the BevoX, I want no part of the Cotton Bowl this year.

Like hell. Bowls will choose whoever they think will get them the biggest draw in attendance / TV ratings. The only standard is that the Cotton usually goes West and the Outback goes East but even that is not set in stone.

Auburn has played in the Outback and Tennessee has played in the Cotton fairly recently.
Mizzou would have a better chance at the cotton than the outback due to their location.

What I meant though is I heard somewhere that the SEC does have some sort of rule whereby if a team finished 2 games ahead of another in the SEC (or maybe just Division? dunno) that bowl games were required to select the team that finished 2 games ahead. That may not sound like much, but the Big 12 didn't even have *that* rule, it was a true free for all. Was what I heard about the 2 game rule right though, or just urban legend?

The Sugar Bowl has to select the SEC champion unless that team is in the BCS NCG.
From there it is basically bowls taking who they want as its a Sugar-cap-outback/cotton-etc selection process.

Supposedly the Outback and Cotton are suppose to select a team from the opposite division every so often.

The SEC has supposedly been a bit miffed of late at how the SECCG loser has been punished for losing that game.
Since, even with a loss your record will be the same as Auburn's and USce (of course I think they may actually lose to Clemson), I think there will be significant pressure from the SEC for the Sugar to take MIssouri over the other two.

OU is the only team I can recall that has lost their conference's championship game and made it to a BCS bowl.

Yeah that was exactly what happened to us in 2007 after losing the conference title game over in the Big 12. We by all logical rights should have gone on to a BCS game and the whole nation was perplexed when we didn't, but we got punished for losing the CCG and the BCS slot was given to a team we beat and were ranked ahead of in every poll whose name I shall not mention.

And you got to play a 7-4 team in the cotton bowl, judging by how your fans brag about that game, it meant more to you to be in the cotton than in a BCS game that year.

Don't want the Cotton Bowl. I am bored with Big 12 teams.
