So, it is claimed the cheer started in the 8os.
I was in school in the 70s and a very much used chant was:
Rammer Jammer yellow hammer, give em hell Alabama. (repeat). my understanding is that the chant goes back to the 20s.

Any one else remember the chant?

I also remember doing the Hey (team we were playing) we're gonna beat the hell outa you (repeat)

I believe it was Steve Sloan as AD in the 80's that put a stop to it. Forget what year it came back, but I do remember doing it during pre-game a few times.

Personally, I've always hated the cheer.

Mal Moore hated the cheer. Don't know if Bill Battle has changed things, but under Mal there were several rules the MDB had to follow when playing it.

Rammer Jammer. one of the best traditions in college football because it is just soooooo Alabama.

Let me explain. Most traditions in College football are pregame. Script Ohio, touching Howard's Rock, Osceola's spear, War Eagle's flight etc....

Alabama's great tradition only occurs following a victory. The Rammer Jammer is our tradition and reserved for winning....

Because at Alabama WINNING IS OUR TRADITION

I was a student in the late 1960s, and don't remember Rammer Jammer. As a dumbass college kid, I would have yelled as loud as anyone. Now it wouldn't bother me to never hear it again.

Not exactly.

Rammer Jammer was in the pregame for the first 15 years or so of it's existence.

Class of '79 here, and yes, I remember it exactly as you say, including the pregame. But it wasn't as pre-planned as today.

Love it against rivals. Not so much against FCS teams or when we win but don't actually beat the hell out of anyone.

Class of 1982, I remember the pregame Rammer Jammer, but I don't ever recall doing the Rammer Jammer with the WJBTHOOY after any game. And that includes two Sugar Bowl wins I attended.

What I remember is just the "Rammer Jammer, yellowhammer, give em hell Alabama" by itself as a chant

The "we're gonna beat the hell outa you" was on its on, a chant done at the beginning of games.

I also remember "Push em back, push em back, all the way to hell and back," "Go to hell, UT go to hell," "Rip em up tear em up, give em hell Bama."
LOL we cussed a lot, and at some point someone in the administration said "that's not nice," and stopped it.
I don't like the taunting cheer done at the end of a game like Ga State and I don't like it when we play a horrible game.
