SIAP (not really)

Very interesting read. Didn't know where Bodda Getta came from before this.

Kidding.
Just playing the SECr a-hole role that's so rampant today.

I honestly had no clue about the origin of either (and had never heard of the "bodda" thing).

quote:

Cramer, who was the cheerleading sponsor at the time, said the cadence for the chant was based on the infamous "Hotty Toddy" cheer at Ole Miss.

"It was patterned after that," Cramer said. "We wanted to incorporate old cheers, as well as things particular to this state. And it was immediately popular."

Here are the words to "Hotty Toddy:"

Are you ready?

Hell, yeah! Damn right!

Hotty Toddy, Gosh almighty

Who the hell are we, Hey!

Flim Flam, Bim Bam

Ole Miss, by damn!

In thinking of symbols unique to the state, the Alabama cheerleaders settled on yellowhammer, the state bird, because it rhymed with Rammer Jammer.

You're welcome Gumps

Same here, which is odd since I grew up and live in Alabama. I've seen the aubs post weagle weagle war damn eagle on Facebook and thought it was stupid. Didn't realize this was a cheer. And what kind of name is bodda getta?

I was in the Auburn band from 01' to 04', and there is another cheer from the past called "Hullabaloo"

Hullabaloo Ka-nick Ka-nack
Hullabaloo Ka-nick Ka-nack
Wah Hee Wah Haw Chicka Chicka Hoorah
Auburn Tigers Rah Rah
Ching Ching Chow Chow
Boom Boom Wow Wow
Auuuuburn
Auuuuburn
Auburn Tigers
Ooo Rah Rah

You may hear this one once per game.

My last year was the 50 anniversary of War Eagle's release. Which had a completely different structure than the one of today. hear it here

I'll add some more history later

Before then it was this, you'd have to use Spotify to open:
Auburn Victory March

lyrics:
We’re the fighting, striking, spiking, hiking API
Then give us due respect or we will very soon reply;
We refuse to meet failure or defeat,
The boys may drop us, They can’t stop us you will find.
Make your step full of pep, API.
Win or die, Some men ride, but we stride.
Keep to the line my boys, Never lag behind.
Chorus:
Come on boys, let’s travel, For it is time that we’re on our way;
Time to hit the gravel, we’ve got to win that game today.
Fight you Auburn Tigers for the victory!
Let them say as we play,
We’re the happy, snappy, scrappy Auburn Tigers.
We’re the drilling, shrilling, thrilling, willing Auburn boys,
If you don’t know then we can show you sorrows and some joys;
We’re the boys who dig, and do things so big,
The API will always try to do their best.
Boys let’s go, let us show how we play good today.
We are game, all the same, Are we down hearted boys?
Well I should say “No!”

Before Aggie came in, I think the Alabama and Mississippi schools where also the only SEC teams with a battle cry other than just "Go 'insert name'"

ie, Hotty Toddy, Hail State, Roll Tide, War Eagle.

When I went to games as a kid (late 80s) I remember Rammer Jammer being referred to as "The Ole Miss Cheer".

Yes. When Dr. Ferguson left Ole Miss to become the Million Dollar Band director he brought it with him. To this day the signal the drum major uses to call up the cheer is to rotate their arm in the shape of an "O"

We really have no room to talk in this regard haha. Here's our old version of Yea Alabama!:

Let the Swanee Tiger scratch; Let the Yellow Jacket sting;
Let the Georgia Bulldog bite; Alabama still is right;
And whether win or lose we smile, for that's Bama's fighting style:
You're Dixie's football pride, Crimson Tide!

When I joined the Auburn band way back in the salad days of 1981, I had to learn another Auburn cheer called "Hullabaloo" that I never hear anymore.

Come to think of it, I think even back then it was only the band members that did it.

It went:

Hullabaloo kanick kanick!
Hullabaloo kanick kanick!
Wah hee wah hah!
Chicka chicka hoorah!
Hoorah hoorah!
Auburn Tigers rah rah!
Ching ching chow chow!
Boom boom wow wow!
Auburn!
Auburn!
Auburn Tigers ooh rah rah!

Yeah, it was kinda dumb. But fun.

We even did the Bodda Getta somewhat backwards:

Getta bodda getta bodda getta bodda get!
Har har har!
Bah boom sis!
Eagle damn war weagle weagle!
Butt'em in the kick Blue Big! Hey!

We got strange looks but we didn't give a frick, we were college students.

Lots of old cheers used nonsense phrases that didn't mean anything.
