Does it feel like there isn't enough love for TJ Yeldon?

I've asked this on other sites, but would like the opinions from some of you.

He is on pace to break the career rushing TD record, AND the career rushing yardage record for Bama backs.

He made one of the biggest plays in Alabama history.

He is the first back to back 1000 yard rusher of the dynasty.

He broke/tied plenty of Freshman records last season.

Plus he is an overall humble and likeable guy.

But it seems like we never appreciate him enough. Maybe it is because his career is still sort of young, maybe it is because of the fumbles (that will be fixed), or maybe it is because AJ is just overshadowing him, but TJ is one of the most consistent performers in the country when it comes to running the ball, and has been since day 1. He will be an all time Bama great when all is said and done.

I ask the same thing during every single Bama game that I watch... and I watch them all.

Boyfriends screaming about how he can't hang onto the ball and how he sucks... all while I'm thinking "send him to Lexington."

Dude's a stud.

Maybe because he's somewhat faceless to most fans. He doesn't do interviews or talks to the media (that I've seen).

He amazes at times the way he floats through the defense his feet seemingly never touching the ground. Would look better floating though if he always took the ball with him.

Yeah this is the thing with him. He is a great back, but I don't trust him like I did Ingram and Trent. Maybe he will fix his fumble issue. Eddie Lacy had the same problem early in his career, but by late 2011 and into 2012 I had full confidence in him.

A combination of these two. The guy is really good and I'm glad he flipped to us. But A.J. is the best QB, IMO, that Bama has ever had and it's kinda his show right now. But don't you worry. If things don't shape up at QB for next year there will be plenty of extra love to go around for Mr. Yeldon.

At the start of the year I thought he was about to make his mark as the best ever at Alabama... He very well still could, but if you keep fumbling and doing so it big games then its gonna send your stock down quick...

When I think of Yeldon I think of a badass player and I also think of fumbles.

It's a good question.

I think some if the tempered enthusiasm is the fanbase buying into the idea of the process (no joke). We have been conditioned, perhaps spoiled, to expect not only a win, but a great performance. As witnessed earlier this year when the team was winning in a less than impressive manner, the fans mirror Saban's lack of tolerance for sloppy play. When we see Yeldon tiptoe in the backfield, we get irritated. When he loses the ball, we get angry.

Another factor is the contrast between him and Drake. Comparatively, Drake is much more exciting as a runner as does a lot less "floating". Thank goodness for Yeldon that Drake isn't any better with ball security.

While he did fumble at unfortunate times last year, it was still only 2 or 3 times all year. I didn't have the "fumbleitis" worry. This year, he's doubled/tripled that number, and now I have some worry every time he's running in a crowd.

It's sad, he's an absolute beast of a RB, but the #1 rule of being a RB: Don't fumble the ball.

I didn't realize he was on track to break those records. For some reason that surprises me because it seemed like Richardson was a better back. I guess what I'm remembering with Richardson was that he was a bruiser and would bounce off tackles and run people over?

I think he gets a lot of love. However, to the extent he doesn't get enough it could be because Alabama has become spoiled with RBs lately and Yeldon kind of just comes across as the next one if you know what I mean.

Ingram won a Heisman, Richardson broke Alabama records, Lacy continued the string, now Yeldon is the "next one."

On the flip side, McCarron is probably the best QB Alabama has ever had (at least in the relatively modern era), so he is getting a lot more attention and credit right now. If you compare McCarron to McElroy, JPW, Pennington, Croyle, Watts, Zow, etc. and he kind of stands out. He is not perceived as just "the next one."

Yeah, it does kind of. He was a big part of the reason we repeated last year. He has been tearing it up this year when he doesnt have guys in his face right when(or before) he gets the handoff.

He packed on more muscle this year, but lost a little speed and quickness it seems. His long arms make him more injury prone, but he is still a badass.

In our 3 biggest games(TAMU, OM, LSU), he has dominated.

He is a stud that is all business.

Yeldon is one of my favorite Bama backs, I just wish he could hold on to the ball a little better. Every time he fumbles is because he isn't carrying the ball high. Lacy, Trich, and Ingram all carried the ball high and rarely fumbled.

The more than casual Bama fan, which includes most here, tend to watch games with a knowledgeable critical eye.

Early in the season, the o-line had its struggles, but so did TJ. As I have posted before, he has a tendency too run too tall in traffic, not behind his pads. That is part of his fumbles...excluding the one against MSU. That was just a good hat on ball hit.

TJ has all the natural talent in the world. He has gotten better as the year has progressed about running behind his pads, but sometimes he still doesn't.

He is a great but needs to keep working on fundamentals and he has a chance to be one of the best ever.

I agree with many of the previous posters. TJ is a great running back, but the fumbles are hard to overlook. Eliminate those fumbles and he will make the move to elite status.

Makes you wonder if Drake would still be on the field if he played on 2009's team, which could be similar to 2014 if we don't get solid QB play. This year we are able to march down the field on any give series and win games with our offense. I am not sure if we were playing to win games with a tough running game, field position, and a dominant defense that we would still be playing a guy who doesn't take care of the ball. Under that scenario his explosive play ability would not be enough to offset his cons. I gotta believe a bigger guy like Henry would be in there in his place instead.
