Right, I mean no part of the Civil War was simple. Every southern state except South Carolina provided a regiment of white volunteers to the Union Army with TN and NC alone providing nearly 70,000 collectively. There were also large parts of the South, especially in Appalachia, that were quite pro-Union.

A similar, though less radical, trend can be seen in the north as many Midwestern states provided observers to the Montgomery Convention (CSA Constitutional Convention), some of them produced Rebel volunteers (see Missouri) and of course we know about the Copperheads.

So there was quite a bit of variability on both sides, when we talk about allegiances by state much of it is a discussion of degree and if one has to draw a line the point is Missouri was more pro-Union than it was pro-Southern therefore, for now and forever more, at least for my purposes here, Mizzou = Yankees. You're either with us or against us. Don't feel too bad though, I mean...you did win.

Since joining the SEC, Arky has won the West in football 3 times, one natty in basketball, along with another appearance in the title game.

All those things you listed don't warrant respect.

I'd support a plan to bring the rant more in line with Godwin's Law. Anyone who mentions the Civil War in relation to Missouri automatically loses the debate.

Just like the Nazis support Godwin's law.

Wrong based on that argument. The Tiger regiment in Columbia fought off Union and Confederate raiders. they had no allegiance to either side.

I've been following threads on here for awhile but I finally have to post. Missouri was definitely split....in the area I'm from people would be offended to be called yankees. A lot of families in the area have ancestors who fought for the south (myself included), there was a large slave population, and our county flag (Callaway County)is the confederate flag (with a slight color change). Up until a few years ago we had a weekend long town celebration to commemorate when we seceded from the union.

But, times they are a changing...I would call Columbia, which is very different than the rural areas of the state, Yankee, but, like a lot of college towns, a lot of people in columbia aren't actually from missouri or if they are they are from stl or kc so columbia has a different vibe.
