Thought with basketball season in full swing and the addition of some new UK folks and non-UK folks this might serve as a useful thread.

First just some quick guidelines for the newbies:

1. While it has it's place on the Rant, this is unabashedly a UK centric board and trolling could result in your removal from the board. This doesn't mean constructive criticism isn't allowed. I think most here know the difference. And as usual, SEC Rant.com Rules/Guidelines also apply.

2. If you have issue with a post, hit the Request Admin button and we'll do what we gotta do.

3. 40-0 t-shirts are not allowed.

And if you'd like, feel free to post a short intro about yourself. I'll begin:

I'm Belle. A lifetime Louisvillian and was fortune enough to have parents who raised me right as a UK fan. First memories of UK are listening to Cawood on the radio when you couldn't catch them on TV here for reasons we shall not talk about. Also have grown up a long-time UK Football fan. Pookie Jones won my heart and there was no turning back. I work in education, counseling not teaching. I usually spend my time off traveling (Oxford, MS has been a frequent spot as of late) and spending time with my family and friends.

Welcome to the board and hope y'all enjoy it around here.

Everyone knows who I am already. They've already formed an opinion too.

Ladies are 4-0 right now, so just saying 36 more games to go!

UK is hosting for the first time ever, the regional will be in Louisville, and the Final Four is in Nashville. Seems like destiny awaits.

I'm Bho. Live in Lexington. I go to every home football game and most baseball games. Mike and I are staples of the Deck.

Yeah, there's not really a whole lot to discuss. My posting on the site as a whole has been down.

I'm a lifelong UK fan and grad. I worked for the University on two different occasions as well. I live just outside of Lexington. I'm a bigger football fan than basketball fan, but don't tell the Rant.
Had season tickets for years, and our adopted son was on the team from 2007-2011, but we let them go after he graduated.

Favorite in person football memory: Beating LSU in 2007, Commonwealth was rocking, and watching Hershel Walker in person.
Worst in person football memory: Tie between the BG Miracle and Chris Doering.

When I was a boy scout we got to go to the games and stand in the upper deck looking out for the patrons, and calling for help if someone needed it. I don't think they do that anymore, but it was my earliest memory of attending games.

Born and raised in Paducah. Went to Murray State but like all native Kentuckians I am a tru blue BB fan. Moved to Baton Rouge in 81 so forgive me if I have become a LSU FB fan too. I have two kids currently attending LSU but I raised them right and taught them to be UK BB fans anyway. Geaux Big Blue!

My name is Bama Bird and I'd like to be your friend. I'm now in the twilight of my Undergraduate career at The University of Alabama and I'll be entering Law School next fall. My two favorite things in life are college football and classical music. I don't get to talk about the latter very much on here so, by all means, let me know if there's a fellow fan on here (mostly mid to late Romantic works).

Holst's Mars. If that piece doesn't get your testosterone going I don't know what will

I'm a Mahler groupie first and foremost. I know all of his pieces by heart and I love all of his works- he's the only composer I can say that about (besides maybe Tchaikovsky). I also enjoy many Wagner and Richard Strauss works. Recently I've been listening to Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique a lot. I regularly listen to Beethoven and Chopin as well. Horowitz is my favorite pianist

I don't listen to a lot of Mozart, but there's a time in everyone's life when you just need some. There's never, ever a time in your life when you just need some expressionist shite.

I think Herbert von Karajan was, and remains, the greatest conductor of the recording era (other than his Mahler recordings which I find a little weak). I think it's amazing that 40 years later, his records are STILL the greatest ever produced.

That's sort of my musical opinions in a nutshell

So what you are saying is you know Alma! "I'm writing 'Das Lied von der Erde' and she only wants to make love!"

Perhaps you should check out "Mahler on the Couch"

In the meantime there is nothing like a good ragtime, even if it is inspired by the Vatican itself LINK

Tom Leher really was a brilliant entertainer who did not quit his day jobs. Teaching at MIT and Harvard. He also served time in the Army and as a researcher were some of the things on his resume.

Lehrer earned his AB in mathematics (magna cum laude) from Harvard University in 1946 at nineteen, received his MA degree the next year, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He remained in Harvard's doctoral program for several years, taking time out for his musical career and to work as a researcher at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, working at the National Security Agency. (Lehrer has stated that he invented the Jell-O Shot during this time, as a means of circumventing liquor restrictions.)
