Why do Missouri and Auburn fans think they're national title contenders?

A 1 loss SEC champion will be above all 1 loss teams. If a 1 loss team makes the title game, it will be an SEC team.
But in case you haven't noticed, a 1 loss team isn't making the championship this season.
Have you seen FSU and OSU's remaining schedules? They aren't losing. Baylor most likely won't as well.
The title game is either going to be Alabama vs. FSU or FSU vs. Ohio State.
Which game you get is purely dependent on whether or not Alabama drops a game.
In the history of the BCS no undefeated major conference team has ever been left out for a 1 loss team.
The only times undefeated major conference teams have been left out is for OTHER undefeated major conference teams.
The SEC has priority only when it comes to the same number of losses.

We're contenders because if we win out and a few teams lose, we're in.

Because Ohio State can still lose. Baylor can still lose. Even if they don't, there's a slight chance we jump them.
Ohio State has a tough Michigan State team in the way. Baylor has to play Oklahoma State.

Because we/they are still in the hunt. Yes you can assume that Ohio State, Baylor, and Florida State will most likely win all their games but until they actually do Auburn is still in the hunt.

The past few years I have seen Bama back into the title game, as well as an LSU team that really was on the outside looking in. The pressure is on all of these teams to keep winning. If history is any indicator, several teams will crumble in the last few weeks.

If Alabama can win the title as a non-conference champion by playing a rematch game against the team the previously beat them, then anything is possible in the BCS. Now go frick yourself.
