diminishing his abilities by talking about the talent he's surrounded by, then say Bama will fall off next year without him? Bama returns most of their team next year. If you guys are right:

Bama STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACKED!

SEC FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED!

You don't win in this league because of your quarterback's throwing ability.

That's why people question McCarron.

That said... Bama's going to be able to run the football next season. No doubt about it. Enjoy the run.

It's good to know that Alabama only has to plug any average QB in as starter.

And not miss a beat.

just about all recent Bama players turned out to be busts, that's why. playing in a good team makes them look better than they really are.

AJ is good in our system. You can say all you want that he wouldn't succeed if he had to throw the ball 40 times a game or if he was on a different team. There is a reason he's on our team and in our system.

People question AJ McCarron because of the recent success of John Parker Wilson and Greg McElroy with Alabama. He's better than both, but neither of the former were that great to start with. You also have to consider that he has had the best defense in college football on his side, a great offensive line for the most part, great running backs, etc...

Who knows if he will be successful in the NFL, but he's not Heisman material just because he could end up with 3 rings as a starting quarterback.

Lacy?
Barron?
Fluker?
Upshaw?
Hightower?
Jones?
Dareus?
Cody?

Yeah they're all busts.

Nick Saban has competed for or won national titles with John Parker Wilson, Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron. All did a job than dozens of other current FBS QBs could do, and Bama will not fall off next year because of this.

As long as they have a line of 5 star RBs ready to run the ball and a great defense, they will be the best team in CFB. That's how incredible their overall talent and recruiting is, they can plug anyone in at the most important position in the sport and beat you by 30.

Spot on assesment.

AJ gets unfairly labeled a game manager because of JPW, Greg, and the many Bama game managers that came before.

Too bad A.J. hasn't played with NFL WR's as a starter.

Honestly how many Tide WR's will start in the NFL?

I'm also completely OK with him getting an invite to New York. My opinion is that he's a good, not great quarterback, a great guy, and a team player. A starting quarterback with that many rings has never happen (to my knowledge), and I'd love to see him with some of the nation's best. It isn't his fault he just does what he's told, but he also shouldn't be judged based solely on his wins...especially when he doesn't have the stats of players like Johnny Manziel and past Heisman winners.

Rant over. Cheers!

AJ is a better college QB than Matt Ryan.
He's a better college QB than Matt Stafford.

But does that make him a better QB?

The reality is that you win in the SEC by running the football. Absolutely, positively 100% dependent on the ability to run the football.

Saban knows this. And that's why the best thing Alabama has been able to do the past several years is run the football.

You obviously didn't see Bama with JPW or McElroy. They were not beating SEC teams by 30 as often as AJ is. Not any where close to it, actually. And neither.

His arm is not elite and he is not a scrambler. He is more Matt Ryan than Aaron Rodgers. Andy Dalton is his floor and Matt Ryan is his ceiling. If he gets surrounded by elite talent he will have a long successful career.

Have you taken a look at the names of these recent busts?

Greg McElroy - smart QB but very poor arm
John Parker Wilson - Nothing more needs to be said
Brodie Croyle - Strong arm but way too injury prone
Tyler Watts - Weak arm, weak accuracy, weak body
Andrew Zow - Strong arm but not very smart in the pocket
John David Phillips -
Freddie Kitchens - One of the most overrated QBs coming out of HS
Brian Burgdorf -
Jay Barker - A winner but not a particularly gifted passer. Weak arm.

Spot on, again.

He COULD be a Heisman winner if the team required Heisman-like performances of him, but right now, he does what he's told and he does it efficiently. It's nothing spectacular, but he wins and he leads. He's the biggest leader this team has seen in the past 20 years IMO.

In 2008, Bama beat #9 Clemson by 24, #3 Georgia by 14, Arkansas by 35, Tennessee by 21, MSU by 25 and Auburn by 36.

In 2009, Bama beat Arkansas by 28, Kentucky by 18, #20 Ole Miss by 20, MSU by 28 and #1 Florida by 19.

In 2010, Bama beat #18 Penn State by 21, #7 Florida by 25, Tennessee by 31, MSU by 20 and #7 Michigan State by 42.

Granted the 30 number was to prove a point, but Bama had plenty of easy blowout wins under those two QBs and many were against highly ranked teams.

I've seen numerous Alabama fans state that Amari Cooper was a top 5 wide receiver in college football, and that this was the best group (as a whole) that Alabama has ever had...

AJ is a great QB and I hope he wins the Heisman this year because he certainly has earned it.
