For the bright lights and sunny beaches of Cali ?

Seems like a no brainer for a young coach that could control most of the talent in Cali and the pacific coast in an easier conference and path to the BCS Championship.

Not everyone likes the easy road. Pretty sure saban would coast to undefeated seasons easier than he already is at bama if he were to go to Texas. Some people want to be the best and prove themselves against the best as well.

Who knows if Sumlin has that personality, but it's foolish to think that everyone has the same viewpoint as your OP.

He gone.

No conceivable reason he'd stay in this lifetime or the next.

USC is the pantheon of college football. TAMU is the plebeian in the streets.

I'll just be grateful if he stays through the regular season, though of course I wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

He was ostracized as soon as he said "excuse me while I whip this out."

Poor guy was trying to pick up a preachers Tab but things went awry.

He gone.

One of Sumlin's mentors was RC Slocum. RC actually left A&M for a year after being our DC midway through his career and came back the next year after seeing it wasn't what it was cracked up to be. He of course ended up eventually succeeding Jackie and having a great run.

Sumlin just has very little reason to leave for any other college job. A&M will pay him as much as anyone. He has almost unlimited resources, a great recruiting base, incredible new facilities he got to have a hand in designing himself, and the opportunity to be the GOAT at A&M and treated like a God for the rest of his life. He's also got small kids and a wife that love CS and have since he was an Assistant long before. If he leaves (which he may never do and if he does it will likely be in several years) it will be for the NFL.

We're going to miss Coach Sumerlin.

It's all about Mrs. Sumerlin.
And she dreams of California.

Coach's commute will be easier.

She wants to raise her kids in a more Godly environment.

Plus, she really enjoys the hippie aesthetic out there.

These are hard times in Aggieland.

If Sumlin stays in CS and continues to win and eventually wins a title, he will be a god. The next stadium or football building years down the road would bear his name. If he were to win a title at somewhere like USC or 'Bama then he is meeting expecations. Not that our expecations aren't high, but we haven't tasted a championshiop in the modern era of the game.

Don't forget cost of living in TX vs CA. He also might not be a big city guy especially an LA kind of guy. I've never been to LA, but I imagine its a little different than Houston although comparable in size. Don't forget the humidity in this part of TX will keep you younger longer than that dry wild fire spurning mud slide inhibiting CA.

I have it on good authority that he's actually already left. His wife was seen shopping for a home in Watts.

He plans to send the players a text message later today.

He gone.

I read an article about this very topic. The author noted that rarely does a coach leave a head coaching position at one top 25 all-time program for another, but listed three main reasons for doing so:

1. One University offers something measurable that the other cannot. An example he gave was James Franklin's situation. Fan Support would be a reason he would leave Vandy for another program.

2. Ties to the destination school. Alum, former assistant there, family connections, etc.

3. The Coach is looking for an out. Example was Dennis may-he-roast-in-hell Francione. Left Bama for A&M because he was looking for an out.

So, Kevin Sumlin will leave A&M for USC because:

A. USC has to offer -- a huge ghetto city with loads of traffic in a state with the highest taxes on earth and a ridiculous cost of living. USC also has a huge recruiting scandel still unwinding. But USC has really nice beaches, great weather, and more money than GOD!!!

For that reason alone. He gone.

B. Sumlin is all about So Cal. He didn't grow up there, has never coached there, didn't even play a game there while in college, and may have never set foot on USC's campus in his entire life. But....He black. USC is the choice of Snoop, Dr. Dre, Easy-motherfricking-E (God rest his gangsta soul).

For that reason....He gone.

C. JFF is leaving. A&M has no hope on Defense in the future. Recruiting at A&M is a shite hole. The NCAA is about to drop the hammer on A&M for AutographGate. Summy wants the frick out.

For that reason......he gone.

In sum:

He -- Motherfrickin' -- GONE!!!!

That white chick his old lady? If it is, then I can bet you $1 million he is not going to be invited to coach at Auburn
