Can Alabama win the Iron Bowl just on tackling alone?

I remember watching the LSU game and realizing that Alabama is fantastic on making tackles the first time they come into contact with a runner. Auburn's rushing attack is going to have fits when they encounter a team that is able to actually tackle them.

I think I saw somewhere where Auburn averages like 5 or 6 yards before being touched.

My prediction is we tackle them more than they tackle us. HEARD IT HERE FIRST FOLKS.

In its seven games against BCS conference opponents, Auburn has averaged a ridiculously high 9.6-yard average in the good blocking yards per attempt (GBYPA) metric that gauges a ball carrier's yardage output when given good blocking (which is very roughly defined as when the offense doesn't allow the defense to do anything to disrupt a rush attempt).

it's not gonna be about tackling, it's gonna be about whether or not we can block you

No, to win the game they would have to score points. Unless they have a tackle in the endzone which would be a safety but I would bet that auburn would score at least 3 points.

All of these elements can help lead to a bit of recognition hesitation on the part of a defense and results in Auburn faring quite well in the ESPN Stats & Information's yards-before-contact metric that measures how many yards a ball carrier gains on average before the defense makes first contact. Coming into Week 11, the Tigers' 4.3-yard mark in this category ranked third nationally (behind only Wisconsin and Oregon, at 4.6).

4.3 my bad. Still pretty good though.

And you don't believe that Alabama can get to the ball carrier faster than any team you've faced so far?

Then do you think Auburn is going to block well enough to keep up that 4.3 average?

That would be pretty bad for us, would mean we couldn't get off the field on D and that our offense wasnt being very productive.

Again, I never said they would

But your OP made it seem that we are gaining our yards on missed tackles

its going to be about who gets more stops. im thinking bama knows how to stop your run game, you wont be able to stop the balance we have on offense.

We're averaging 9.6 ypr with 4.3 coming before contact. That has us averaging 5.3 after contact.
