I am not sure what to think of this yet. I see a number of positive things but a bunch of negative things as well.

Both the Falcons and Braves playing in new homes in 2017!

This is pretty cool Heat Map of where Braves fans are located.

what is implied by "heat map of braves fans"?
simply fans, or fans that pay to go to games? knowing a bit of Atlanta, that seems to highlight some the more Caucasian parts of town.

It's ok to say white...I don't take offense. It is funny also see Peachtree City being the large Red section southwest of the Ted

According to the ajc turner field needs like $150 million worth of improvements to the stadium, none of which will improve the over all fan experience. And something like another $200 million to improve the fan experience.

Sounds to me like "Improving the fan experience" involves building a mixed use area to increase profits for the franchise at the expense of the Turner Field area.

I know very little about Atlanta, what's happening down there by Turner Field? Wasn't the Olympic Stadium/Turner Field supposed to improve the area? Did that whole plan not work out as well as expected after the games?

Traffic to get into that area is insane. It's been a deterrent for fans. Which is one of the Braves excuses for such poor attendance while fielding decent teams.

The area around the TED is not good.

Thanks to the excellent planning done by Atlanta (not enough parking/poor access to Marta), the most lucrative use of the empty lots around the stadium is parking for Braves home games. It really hinders the development needed to revitalize the area.

It's a little bit long, but Atlanta Magazine put together an excellent article about the area this summer: The Other 284 Days

So turner is built in 97, and they'll have a new stadium in 17? What?

I'm just surprised Olympic Stadium didn't have a direct connection to MARTA. That had to be a nightmare.

There are too many Braves fans. They are like the Yankees of the south.

Built in 95/96. Its also a political issue. City of Atlanta will not do a damn thing to improve the area around TF, so the Braves are basically telling them to frick themselves.

ATL is obviously doing as little as possible to help the situation traffic-wise. The Stadium's been in the same location for fifty years and they haven't been able to figure it out? I could see the Braves telling them to piss off after all that time and nothing really changing to help ease getting people into the stadium.

That being said, a stadium built less than two decades ago for $200m needing $350m to get up to the standards the Braves would like sounds pretty crazy.
