ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves announced this morning that they plan to move to Cobb County in 2017.

According to published report, the team is set to leave Turner Field after their 20 year agreement expires at the end of the 2016 season.

The team says they plan to build a new stadium on the northwest corner of the Interstate 75-285 interchange in Cobb County.

"We are excited to announce plans to build a world-class stadium, which will open in 2017 at the NW intersection of I-75/I-285," the team said in tweets. "We have secured a large tract of property at this location & will work to build a world-class ballpark for our fans."

Sweet, I might be able to go to more games now instead of 3-4 a year.

It's in a horrible location with no redeeming areas around the ballpark. It's also a bitch to get to from anywhere other than south of Atlanta.

the fans that attend the games come from the north side. its an obvious choice to move. surprised it isnt going into the old plant off 285 in doraville

Besides the fact that it is located in the middle of the ghetto and parking/traffic is a complete and utter shite show, nothing

Great. Let's continue to ignore the southern part of the city and let it fall into disrepair. This is a brilliant idea.

They shouldnt have built there in the first place. I remember being at a ballgame in the old stadium and lookn across at the newer one bein built and thinkin "whats wrong with this one".

So you think its the braves responsibility to fix the south side?

Also, I wonder who in the city ticked Braves management off to the point of leaving Fulton. Someone fricked up

That was my first thought. They've been trying to get the blasted thing into Cobb & Gwinnett for decades, now. It's never been an argument of convenience to get INTO the city, but rather opposition of those who come FROM the city outward. No desire to have the Five Points Station permanent residents take up shop in Marietta.
