This is mainly for the peace of mind of the LSU fans here, but I saw some lively discussion about it last night. I saw (and still see on the Tiger Rant) a lot of people griping that it was an awful call and "typical Bama refs", etc...

It was a horrible call, because it was the textbook definition of targeting - and they missed it - which worked out better for LSU in the long run. Would have been much worse overall had he been ejected - which would have been the proper call.

Agreed, if that wasn't targeting then nothing is.

That being said I fricking hate the rule and wish it was never called.

If he was ejected he would have had to miss the first half of the next game right?

Totally agree with this. Well, at least if you're going to call it - give the refs the ability to overturn the penalty all together if they're going to overturn the call on the field.

That's the silliest thing in the world.

"Oh, we were wrong... but... um... sorry about that 15 yards."

Frankly, I'm glad he wasn't. The idea of him covering Mike Evans over the top makes me happy.

That'd be pretty silly. Seems like a pretty clear case.

I don't understand the counter argument at all.

He wasn't penalized for targeting. He was penalized for being in the presence of Kevin Norwoods awesomeness without asking first.

I believe so, which is why it would have been MUCH worse for LSU had it been called correctly.

Horrible call. The very definition of targeting and they let it go.

I don't get it.

If he'd had a 'G' on his helmet he would've gotten jail time.

Glad Loston got to finish the game. Because he sucks.

McCarron even gave him a hug and told the officials not to eject him.

Yeah I complained initially when they said late hit but after the first replay it was clearly targeting.

As per angry tiggers: ALABAMA OWNS THE REFS AND THEY CHEAT BY HOLDING, GETTING THE REFS TO CALL bs CALLS LIKE THIS SUPPOSED TARGETING WHICH SHOULDN'T BE A RULE ANYWAY BECAUSE HOW IS HE SUPPOSED TO NOT RUN FULL SPEED AND SPEAR A DEFENSLESS PLAYER BECAUSE HE COULD GET AWAY, AND THE HOLDING AND CHEATING BY THE REGS PAID BY THE REC AND THE SEC IN BIRMINGHAM JUST ALWAYS CHEAT LSU WHICH IS WHY LSU HAS TO SHARE THE NATIONAL LIMELIGHT WITH ALABAMA.

Cliff notes: LSU ALWAYS claims the refs cheat them and that it is organized. The cheating refs are always one primary reason when they lose a game. It is useless to argue with them.

And by the way... no matter that the entire nation saw it, the LSU fan will just say the rule is BS, or something similar was not called earlier, or that it wasn't a late hit or spearing, or that it shouldn't be a rule and that LSU was victimized by that ugly Loston spearing targeting late hit.

I'm mad that he got called but not ejected. Literally the worst possible outcome IMO

I would say he wasn't defenseless. Being brought down by another player at the time and he was still trying to gain yards.

What is your opinion on the no call on HaHa?
