So, there are some good Missouri posters on the site, and even on the Kentucky Board. But like all fan bases they have a couple of trolls, who seem particularly obsessed with UK, you all know who they are. I don't know if it's because we are so similar to KU or not.

Anyway, I'm trying to make a pledge to ignore any troll posts and not get into a argument with them in threads, but instead discuss the game with the intelligent Missouri posters as the opportunity presents itself. Much like the thread from yesterday.
Anyone with me? I think silence to the troll posts would be a way to silence them, but then again I could be completely wrong. Thoughts?

Oh, and I think this could be UK's shining moment, UK 24, Missouri 21

Good call, I have been ignoring the worst trolls for the most part and almost put up a thread here with a list of their worst posters except CatFan and Belle called out the worst on some threads. I think I have finally figured out why they are so obsessed with Kentucky as the Cats are their displacement target for all that repressed anger for Kansas. KU / UK, historic basketball success, and blue in the school colors probably fuels the most myopic Tiger fans which overshadows the good Tiger posters.

I still think several of the Mizzou fans may be posting under multiple Mizzou account's as the posting style is too similar. The other issue is the bandwagon fans that can border on troll level. I put up a game thread for a women's basketball game last year and got attacked by several Mizzou posters. The Tiger trolls were not even aware it was a women's game and thought my comments were directed at the men's team (who was not even playing that day) and called me a troll. This thread and this thread which included this attack on Wildcat Mike contains the usual suspects.

quote:

Back the frick off, PussyCatMike...you're as terrible as the absolute worst poster on this site.

I still think they are sore because I called out mograyback (who now posts as the alter Sleeping Tiger) and felt there were issues. mograyback got banned shortly after that which seemed to confirm my points, yet that just seemed to fuel more Mizzou backlash. If you call them out and actually show them the data they just get pissy and call troll. What is the point by then, and you can't fix stupid. Better to just ignore them and just communicate with the better posters in their group.

Well, I hope I don't find myself in the troll category and I hope my next post doesn't put me in that category if I wasn't already. I have great respect for Kentucky and hope they do well (when they're not playing Mizzou). Some of those named just are what they are. I don't know that they single out Kentucky necessarily. I think they are equal opportunity trollers. Heck, I've been on the receiving end myself at times.

Anyways, we've been doing a preview on our board each week for that week's opponent. I had the taks of putting one together for this week and some time back Cheese had asked me to post it over here as well. I fully admit it is very amateurish and probably written with black and gold glasses on. Surely I'll catch some hazing for it but hopefully it's relatively fair and accurate. Will post it next since it is fairly long.

#9 Missouri 8-1 (4-1) at Kentucky 2-6 (0-4)
November 9th 2013 Commonwealth Stadium, Lexington, KY.
11:00am cst (ESPNU)
Sunny, H-57 L-36
10% chance of rain

When Missouri Has The Ball
Total Offense: #2 Missouri 4500 yds/ 500 yds per game/ 40.6 pts per game
Passing Offense: #3 Missouri 2365 yds/ 262.8 per game
Rushing Offense: #2 Missouri 2135 yds/ 237.2 per game

Scoring Defense: #9 Kentucky 27.2 pts per game
Passing Defense: #8 Kentucky 223.4 yds per game
Rushing Defense: #12 Kentucky 197.6 yds per game

Players to Watch: Bud Dupree, Za’Darius Smith and Donte Rumph.

It’s early in the week and while all signs point towards the return of QB James Franklin, it has yet to be officially announced. In the absence of the senior QB, RSF Mauk has done an admirable job. Though his numbers aren’t quite as efficient as Franklin’s, he has done an outstanding job handling what might have been the toughest stretch of games Mizzou will face this season. Mizzou doesn’t look to miss a beat this week regardless of which QB gets the starting nod. From this poster’s point of view, I’d like to see Franklin play at least half of the game to knock the rust off before heading into the last two games of the season against Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

Kentucky’s pass defense ranks higher than its rushing defense, but still allows an average of 223.4 yard per game. They are led by junior defensive end, Bud Dupree who arguably had his best game against Mississippi State 2 weeks ago. When Dupree is involved, Kentucky’s defense does well. They are anchored on the other end by another junior, Za’Darius Smith. Much like Mizzou, opposition success in the passing game oftentimes comes as a result of their secondary play. Up the middle, Kentucky is flat out big with 320 pound Donte Rumph and 338 pound Mister Cobble. Despite being big up the middle, teams have still had success running the ball against Kentucky.

Edge: Mizzou

When Kentucky Has The Ball
Total Offense: #13 Kentucky 2861 yds/ 357.6 yds per game/ 24.0 pts per game
Passing Offense: #12 Kentucky 1563 yds/ 195.4 per game
Rushing Offense: #12 Kentucky 1298/ 162.2 per game

Scoring Defense: #4 Missouri 20.6 pts per game
Passing Defense: #14 Missouri 279.3 yds per game
Rushing Defense: #3 Missouri 109.4 yds per game

Players to Watch: Jalen Whitlow, Jojo Kemp, Javess Blue

Kentucky is talented but very young at the skill positions. They are also a little banged up, yet it is unknown how much those bumps and bruises will result in players missing the game against Mizzou. They have featured two sophomore QB’s all season, Maxwell Smith and Jalen Whitlow. Jalen Whitlow adds a running threat when he is in the game, as he’s also the team’s 3rd leading rusher. Whitlow has been fighting some nagging injuries but appears to have emerged as the winner of this QB battle, accounting for 4 TD’s, including an 88 yard TD run in their last game against Alabama State. Kentucky is also young at RB, where their most consistent RB has been freshman Jojo Kemp, who leads the team with 390 yards rushing. The receiving corps adds some experience with their leading receiver, junior Javess Blue, but also features 2 freshman receivers, Ryan Timmons and Jeff Badet. Blue (ball to the eye in pre-game) and Timmons (ankle) both missed time in their last game, but I suspect they’ll return for the Mizzou game, or else Kentucky could find themselves thin at the WR position.

Missouri’s defense has been stout against the run this year, and should continue that trend against Kentucky. While Missouri’s defense has given up yardage against the pass, that is also a bit deceiving, as those yards have not always resulted in points, as Missouri is 4th in the SEC giving up only 20.6 points per game. Another statistic that doesn’t show up in the passing defense ranking is the number of sacks and turnovers the team gets, both of which Mizzou leads the SEC in. I anticipate the DE’s will continue to be able to get pressure on the QB and the question will quickly become how Whitlow handles that pressure, whether with his arm or with his legs.

Edge: Mizzou

Closing thoughts:

It is difficult to get a true read on how much of an impact Stoops has had on the Wildcats. I certainly would not take them lightly based solely on their record. A 4 game stretch against the likes of Louisville, Florida, South Carolina and Alabama will take its toll on nearly any team’s record. I like what Stoops has done at Kentucky and I think the future is bright for them with the young players they currently have and the current commitments they have coming in next year. If Mizzou takes this game lightly, Kentucky has enough young talent that they could be in for a rude awakening. If Mizzou comes in prepared and in the right frame of mind, they should be able to handle what Kentucky dishes out.

Prognostication:

I think with the make up of this Mizzou team, they won’t take this game lightly and Mizzou will come out of Lexington with a win, regardless of who starts at QB. I am holding off on a score prediction until we know whether Mauk or Franklin gets the call.

Nothing inappropriate about your post, reedus. That's a pretty factual breakdown.

One correction though - It's Jalen Whitlow, not Jason.

You know what, I knew that and meant to correct that. Had typed it late last night and made a mental note to go back this morning and fix it and flat out forgot.

I hope I'm not in the troll category either, and that y'all will recognize that every fan base on here has their idiots. We're not all like that. Heck, some of us even try to ignore our own!

Here's hoping for a good game with no injuries.

reedus, you are cool and I supported you on several boards

semo, you are also cool and I offered to sponsor you on here in the very beginning

As for the post, UK fans are realistic in their chances to win this game so saying Mizzou probably wins is not upsetting or unexpected. It took Joker several years to run the team into the ground so it will take several years to dig out. Fall 2015 - about the same time the stadium upgrades are coming on line - and UK should be at least competitive again. Until then the Cat fans are just going to have to settle for winning on the basketball court.

Self reporting. I had understated UK's passing yards/game at 162 when it's 195. Fixed.

I really think they have a lot of young talent. And that young talent is getting a lot of experience early on. It will pay off as they'll have the experience to match the young guys coming in with this next class. UK is going to make some noise in the very near future.

reedus23, this was posted on your UK game thread on the Mizzou board.

contemplating whether I should go or not, im gonna be in Louisville all weekend with my buddy who goes to mizzou too. and its only 50 minutes away.

Might want to add at least 1/2 hour to that number and game traffic may add to that greatly. If the guy speeds (which he would have to do to make it in 50 min) he will get nailed by several speed traps normally operating between Louisville and Lexington. Suggest adding more travel time.

I posted it on his thread on the Rant, but if he needs anything more regarding Louisville itself outside of what I posted I'd be more than happy to help.

ETA: If he's rather keep the trolls out of the thread, if he wants to start a thread on the Mizzou Board and Semo doesn't mind (I never heard back on whether I had permission to post over there) I could answer him (or anyone else who wants to know) there as well.

We are going to need luck more than you, that is for sure. I just hope that it's a close game at the end with UK having a chance to win.

Good game with no injuries for either team. There are no easy games on the road in the SEC. That fact is very clear.

You were overwhelmingly approved Belle. Feel free to jump in on the Mizzou board. Might make it easier for them.

Ain't that the truth kilo. So much different than the Big 12 days when there were certain games you could pencil in as a win regardless of whether it was at home or away. In the SEC, if you do that it is a sure way to guarantee a loss.

We fooled Belle into thinking there actually is such a thing as a rational Missouri poster.
