How long would you survive in the 1980s?

Ran across this video, family did an experiment and lived with nothing but 80s tech for a week. LINK Even though I lived through it, I wouldn't go back. the whole decade is a little overrated in my opinion unless you really liked Ronald Reagan or Molly Ringwald

I would actually much prefer the 90s and yes I have nostalgia for when I grew up (no, not telling when, but computers where the size of rooms so I didn't even think twice about them till I was in college.) If I was forced back into the 80s, i could survive easily without my tech, but I wouldn't be happy.

Had to ground my daughter for a week and took away her phone. You'd have thought we had taken a life preserver from a drowning person. It was amazing some of the things she seemed to think she needed her iphone for.

I would not only survive but would thrive with a pocket full of quaters for the pay phone and would drive my big block chevy everywhere on .99 a gallon gas

Did it once, easily. Could again.

Introduction of Atari, frogger, pitfall, donkey kong.
VHS introduced, watching movies in your home. IN YOUR HOME. So damn awesome.
No cell phones. Just agree to meet someone at a prearranged location and time.
Cruising was still in style.
Street rods and street races were still in style.
Smoking pit at school.
Hair metal.
Russia and communism was the bad guy, and you knew it.
Terrorism in its infancy as far as the U.S. was concerned.
Miami Vice.
Friday night videos.

they were right about one thing, I wasn't allowed near the turntable until I was 10 and I didn't let my kid use our hi-fi stereo without permission till high school, that shite was expensive. I don't think badly of kids now a days cause I'm super jealous. I would have loved this as a kid.

I do worry though that cellphones and texting are lowering the next generations ability to plan ahead.

Hunter we must be the same damn age.

I miss not having a cell phone. 100% connectivity sucks IMO. Everyone is so impatient now.

Before cell phones, when you were out of the office, you were out of the office.

I've always wondered if the constant connectivity will be linked to bad health in some fashion or another.

Don't get me wrong I love my smartphone but things just seemed so much more relaxed back then before we were in constant contact with everyone

Um, SNL sucks now. SNL was waaay better in the 80s. You could not be more wrong about that.

SNL was a wasteland in the 80s, Piscapo was blah and Eddie Murphy was the only good thing about it. 70s and 90s were pretty awesome

the 00s are beginning to grow on me.

When you've been around as long as I have you learn it is impossible to pass judgement on a current cast based on your current biases. I remember people saying SNL sucked when Farley, Sandler and Meyers were on.

No way.

Church Lady.
Unfrozen caveman lawyer.
Yeah, that's the ticket.
Buckwheat.
Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood.
Mr. Subliminal.
Dennis Miller anchoring the weekend news.

granted.

you mean, loved us.

cassette tapes and 8-tracks

Nothing like sitting with your finger on the pause button waiting on a song to come on so you can make your mix tape.

no Breaking Bad

Miami freaking Vice.

Probably. I graduated HS in 88.

And agree with today's SNL. Intellectual humor nowadays, is dick in a box. The more vulgar you are, the more folks today think it's funny, when in reality, it's just a lack of talent to actually perform comedy.

Oh, and how the hell did I almost forget:

And Johnny Carson. Today's late night wouldn't sniff any kind of rating if his talent was still around.

Piece of cake. Of course, I pre-date color TV so I'm probably not your primary target. My kids would have a much harder time...

I could do it. I hate cell phones and the need for instant gratification today. The only thing that would suck is no hd tv and digital cable.
