quote:
"You're not truly a member of the SEC until you've had your heart broken by Steve Spurrier." - Mark Story
Ran across that on SB. Story covers UK I do believe.
And as much as this looks like another SC shot at Mizzou there are 2 things I can easily concede.
1) Much of which Story is referring to can be credited to Spurrier's time at UF.
2) SC is also a multiple time recipient of heartbreak at the hands of Spurrier. And that's if we were lucky enough to keep it close enough to even be a heartbreak.
So I figured that was a solid quote about the lore of Spurrier and his legacy to SEC football.
Welcome to 'da club Mizzou.

Spurrier broke my heart when he never called back after our date. He even pretended he didn't know me when we ran into each other in the frozen foods section at the grocery store a couple weeks later. I am a true member of the SEC.

Should've bought 'em a 6 pack of cheap beer and a round of golf.

The way to spurrier's heart. Through his handicap and his beer gut.

Your post confused me for a second before I realized the guy's last name is Story.

I guess that's a much more reachable goal than winning the conference. Even the Mississippi schools can be a "true member" now.

quote:Uh...yeah the most recent heartbreak coming against the Vololols in Knoxville. But no, I know what you mean. It's a funny quote. Spurrier probably gets the loudest collective 'boos' from around SEC stadiums more than any other coach.
SC is also a multiple time recipient of heartbreak at the hands of Spurrier.

Spurrier is one of the great coaches in SEC history. He changed the league in the 1990's with his unstoppable offenses. He is the main reason that all the other SEC teams put so much focus in developing such great defenses. Which has ultimately resulted in a lot of National Championships for other SEC teams.
I have a lot of respect for him.
