Most likely down to Alabama, UGA, and SMU. Crystal Ball momentum was swinging towards SMU/UGA and now back to Bama after his visit. Might be interesting because if his Twitter is any indication of what his decision will be like, someone's going to get trolled.

If SMU got him that's be crazy, they already have Mudiay.

The are selling the heck out of the Big East and Larry Brown as HC, who could possibly not even be there next season (age, health, etc...)

Just curious, but how many scholarships do y'all have to fill for the 2014 class? Where will UGA go if they miss on Lee?

He's the last major UGA target left uncommitted. We have no commitments so it would be totally back to the drawing board I would imagine.

I think we have 3 or so available spots. UGA hoops is really struggling right now. Fox doesn't seem willing to deal with AAU coaches, which is killing him recruiting in Atlanta, and everywhere really.

Which is unbelievable because UGA is a sleeping giant in college basketball a Top-30 potential job IMO.
So much talent and yet nothing to show for it. As an outsider it is time to go for Fox if this is the case. Those 1 or 2 schollies not filled will hurt a program in so many ways down the road, just in not having them filled with even 3* or NR guys.

Fox is a disciple of Trent Johnson and Trent recruited the same way

The Fox-UGA situation is similar to the end of the Trent Johnson era at LSU IMO.

Trent Johnson was a much, much better recruiter than Mark Fox. Not that that's saying much.

That's why I said end of the Trent era. At least Trent signed Andre Stringer and O'Bryant though.

We need to fire Fox and then hire the best recruiter we can find. I don't care if he's a sleazy motherfricker. I'll take the risk of a couple years of probation every now and then of it means we are competitive most of the time. Right now UGA has no talent.

I agree with rzd30. UGA could have a great basketball program, and it should be one of the better jobs in college basketball.

I don't know if UGA will ever have a great program because the facilities, fan support, and financial commitment just aren't there. We could be like a Baylor, though. That's sort of the model I have in mind. I just don't think UGA has the clout to become a truly great hoops program unfortunately. We should be better than we are currently though, that's for sure

fan support

IMO, that will start to pick up if recruiting ever picks up at Georgia. It's the SEC. It can be difficult to get fan interest and much of a financial commitment to basketball. I think UGA is in a similar predicament to what LSU experienced before Trent went to TCU. Y'all just need a spark.

I'm not sure I'd want to follow Baylor's model. I think it's only a matter of time before Scott Drew gets hit with some violations.

I get what you're saying, but I think LSU has a little more basketball history, at least in terms of notable players with Shaq and Pete Maravich. LSU also made a Final Four relatively recently.

UGA has really only been good in modern college basketball when we were cheating like crazy under Harrick. We also had a good year when we lucked into Thompkins and Leslie, but that was more of a flash in the plan.

College basketball recruiting is a nasty business, and Atlanta is one of the areas of the forefront of that nastiness. It's hard to recruit there consistently unless you're a blueblood, which UGA is not. Even UCLA hired an Atlanta AAU coach in order to land two 5* kids. The Baylor model is a bit extreme, but UGA absolutely has to be willing to deal with the AAU scene in Atlanta to maintain a relevant basketball program. We can't use the same recruiting strategy as Duke.

Recruits don't want to play for UGA because our facilities suck a dick and we have trouble putting asses in the seats. We won't put money into a new coliseum because we don't put asses in the seats and don't see returns from basketball.

Classic chicken/egg conundrum that our tight-fisted athletic department will never attempt to solve. They'll hire another coach we've never heard of this season after Fox is canned and the cycle will continue.

Mccray is know at LSU too. We are hoping that he'll be able to replace Robert Kirby and his Memphis connections with his Georgia connections.

I dont agree with that. I think that they will make a big hire. Maybe not Harrick big. But big.
