that Rich Rod turned them down. Holy cow, it may be the fortuitous rejection in CFB history.

Thank you, Rita!!! You're beautiful, I don't care WHAT the pictures say. Alabama will always love you!

TY Finebaum, for causing Rita to tell Rod to tell Bama no.

The Alabama football process during those dark years.

Paul Finebaum should get most of the credit. He was the one making fun of Rich Rod's wife for two straight days.

MM had the entire fan base trolled on the RR thing. He knew he had NS in the bag and flirted with RR for the pure enjoyment of it all.

What if Saban had taken Drew Brees instead of Culpepper. He would probably still be coaching the Dolphins.

The whole thing has been luck. Fired coach with no plan, turned down by many. Backed into Saban, backed into title games, shite scheduling. Good for them.

Luck's got nothing to do with it.

Based on rumors and personal conjecture, Coach fRod was never given an actual offer. He was the leading candidate until Jimmy Sexton got wind of it, promptly called Mal Moore up and said something to the effect of, "WHAT THE frick DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING? WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU CALL ME FIRST? DIDN'T YOU KNOW NICK MOHERfrickING SABAN IS INTERESTED IN THE BAMA JOB? ARE YOU SOME KIND OF GODDAM MORON?"

Sometime after that (like, about 20 seconds after Sexton hangs up), Mal calls fRod and says, thanks, but we're going to pursue other opportunities, feel free to spin it anyway you want to the press.

May not be exactly how it went down, but I think it's much closer to the truth than the "fRod's-wife-heard-Finebaum-and-made-him-turn-down-the-job" meme.
