Missouri has beaten two teams that are better than anyone on Ohio State's schedule this year. And it's not like Ohio State is dominating "the eye test" either.

Other than just leaving a team higher because of preseason rankings, how could you possibly say that Ohio State is the better team right now?

I know this will work itself out if Missouri wins, but this kind of bullshite matters in the BCS era. By beating UGA in the first game, Clemson was #3 in the country. That means Florida State beat the hell out of "the #3 team in the country", and it shapes perception. It's really ridiculous - more and more, sports media and polls are ranking teams based on where they THINK the team will finish based on who they play, not who the best team is. Just stupid.

I answered that in the last paragraph. If auburn were to somehow run the table from here, beating a 7th ranked Missouri in the SECC would make a big difference from beating a 4th ranked Missouri. The perceptions change but they don't change in a vacuum. Beating a PERCEIVED great team makes people PERCEIVE you to be great.

This is true but in perspective Missouri's schedule was extremely light on the front end; they played 4 crappy teams before playing their first SEC game which was Vandy so that's 5 of their 7 wins against weak competition.

No argument here. But Ohio State's schedule is pathetic, and Oregon has played nobody. At this point in the season, Missouri has two quality wins, and that's TWO more than tOSU and Oregon.

Lou Holtz tried to justify it, and I thought he failed miserably. Bottom line, if anyone is putting tOSU over Missouri right now, it's because of their name. Nothing else. Their schedule isn't as tough, the b1g is down...but they're the Ohio State University. So, the fellatio continues.

19 game winning streak. Not saying it's right, but it's understandable.

According to Sagarin, Mizzou has a top 30 schedule so far. That's better than Bama, FSU, Oregon, Ohio State, Miami, Clemson, Texas Tech, and Baylor.

Take a gander at Ohio State's schedule. They played Buffalo, San Diego State, California, and Florida A&M in their non-con. Their best win this season is Northwestern, who lost at home to Minnesota yesterday. All their conference games have been close. For comparison, Mizzou's closest game this season was our 15 point victory against your Bulldogs.

OK. And we've won those games mostly by 3 scores or more. The closest anyone came to us was Georgia, and that was still at 15 point win for Mizzou. And, we're 3rd in the SEC in TOTAL DEFENSE, as well as 3rd in scoring defense. I think it's fair for people to think Mizzou deserves the higher rank than tOSU.

I don't go too much for computer ranked schedules because you get a lot more credit for beating a 60th ranked cupcake than a 100th ranked cupcake. When I'm differentiating between the championship contenders, I look at games played against opponents with a legit shot at beating you - the good and very good/elite teams. Missouri has played 2 very good and one capable team (Vandy). Ohio State has played two capable teams (Wisconsin and Northwestern) AND has looked weak against their patsies.

I think you could make a case for putting Missouri anywhere from 1 to 4, but I chose tOSU because it's the most blatantly bad ranking based on NOTHING but name.

Oh, make no mistake, I think Missouri should be ranked higher than Ohio St. but I was just playing the Devil's Advocate from the perspective of the voters.

With the same basis that Louisville is still considered a Top 25 team.

We never said pollsters were the brightest folks on the planet.

I actually think Baylor's the fourth best team in the country even though they've played nobody so far. If you ask yourself, which team outside of the big 3 (Bama, Oregon, FSU) would give the top 3 the biggest problems, it has to be Baylor. The likes of Ohio State and Missouri doesn't have the one dominant unit that can single-handedly keep them in the game. Baylor has the offense to keep up with Oregon and FSU and put up points against Bama. The other teams can't pose that kind of threat.

That's the way college football works. Names matter. If Oklahoma State was Ohio State, 21-0 would have never happened.

This is why a four team playoff, that will usually be four conference champions, doesn't bother me.

The team that emerges from SEC will be so vastly superior to the frauds from the B1G and XII, the championships will only continue to accumulate.

You may be right about Baylor, but they've played nobody at all. Their schedule is completely back-loaded. If they finish the rest of the season undefeated, they'll move up and rightly so.

Somehow the pollsters recognize the weakness in Baylor and Texas Tech's schedules, but not tOSU.

You do realize Missouri's 8th in country in scoring?
