We haven't been on many SEC road trips. It just so happens we will be in Gatlinburg that weekend and a buddy of mine (die hard TN fan) can get me tix.

Any recommendations or advice from folks who have made this trip? Probably driving over and back same day from Gatlinburg with the wife and kids so probably not a whole lot of hell raising.

TIA

Tailgate by the river.

If anything it is differnt from anywhere else. You may get invited onto a boat. I was, it was fun.

Il be doing the same, staying in Gatlinburg. It is a fun trip. If you get a chance, stop by Stefano's pizza in Knoxville. It is at the end of The Strip. Some of the best pizza I've ever had.

When I was a kid, we did the Gatlinburg/Knoxville trip a few times when AU was playing up there (mom's parents had UT season tix for a number of years)... it's the way to go if you have kids, imo. There's more stuff for them to do in Gatlinburg than Knoxville.

I'd wait until they set the KO time before I committed though... a 7:30 KO (knoxville is on eastern time) would make for a LOOOOOONG day, considering you have a bit of a drive after the game.

I'll be there. It's one of my favorite road trips. I love hanging out by the river pregame.

I've been twice. It's a concrete wonderland. I'll also be driving from Gatlinburg to Knoxville the day of the game so maybe I'll meet you in traffic and wave

The river is the coolest area I guess. We usually eat at Calhoun's before going to the game. Neyland is huge but the concourses are dark and musty.

Be prepared for Rocky Top being played on boomboxes, loud speakers, car speakers, televisions, bands, boats, and much more.

I'll be at this game as well. I haven't tailgated my two previous times there. Both times was while working ESPN sideline crew and you have to check in 2-3 hours prior, can't be hammered. Driving down with my brother from Cincinnati, have tix, wingin' the rest.

First AU game I've been able to make since 2010 LSU. Pretty excited about it.

This was the game I was going to go to until the Bama/LSU tickets fell into my lap.. Guess I'll try and make UGA. I've just never been to Neyland, and wanted to go.

Also, please tell me you aren't one of those that goes to Gatlinburn only to frequent the shops!?!

That's where I was born.. They're trying to revamp downtown (a lot of shady areas, but going away). The city is pumping money into bringing tech markets there and hipsters are buying up old downtown homes left and right. Chattanooga has a 100% fiber system capable of offering 1gb/sec (fastest internet in western hemisphere), awesome for business growth and attraction.

Chattanooga would be a smart move considering property value rates are only going to go up there and are regionally on the lower end. I like it because its central location to ATL, Knoxville, Nashville, Huntsville, and Birmingham.

We take a summer weekend trip there with the family every year. Love Chattanooga. I'd move there in a sec if I could.

This +100. Great Pizza, you can also try Gus' Good Times Deli....it's down near the pedestrian bridge going over University (I think that's the main road through campus). I will be there as well, one of my favorite road trips

Been a few times, the river is a must see, Calhouns, fun to walk around and talk to the fans. Game used to be more heated, then we started those dang divisions and we lost the UT rivalry.

We have 5 in a row over those guys which should tell you how far UT has fallen...There last victory over us was 1999..

Went with my dad as a kid in 2004. Don't remember to much, other than it was VERY quiet and they were pissed. Lots of F bombs that day

I was in Neyland for it... Jeff Klein pick six on the first play of the game... i don't think we ever scored...

That 1999 UT teams was absolutely loaded, and it was Tuberville's first season at AU.

I'm thinking of going to this one too. I've never been but my sister (no pics) after her first couple years at AU would go take summer classes at UT to get away for the summer.

I will be there. Our mixed group (2 AU and 2 UT) will hopefully be tailgating on the Ag Campus (right across Neyland Drive from the river) with another mixed group from the Dothan area.

Been to UT now several times and it isn't a bad place to watch a game. If you want to see the big screen you can't have seats really anywhere in the south end of the stadium though because of the upper deck hanging over you. Upstairs is Sherpa territory, and unless you are near the AU band you will not hear them (UT band is mic'd with huge speakers in all four corners of the field).

We are planning on staying until Monday and using Sunday to go to either Dollywood or into the park. Hopefully the leaves will still be near peak that early in November.

hope we're taking a full band to knoxville... away games are much more enjoyable when it's not a pep band.
