I've read countless posts on this forum that LSU doesn't regard Ole Miss as its rival.

Yet, it was representatives of the LSU student body that contacted Ole Miss about naming the annual football game.

It was a rivalry back in the 50s and 60s. If Ole Miss was good, it'd still be a rivalry.

I realize that , but this occurred just a few years ago.

In 2008, the student bodies of both schools elected to christen the yearly contest the "Magnolia Bowl", the magnolia flower being the state flower of both Louisiana and Mississippi, and award a trophy to the winner. Ole Miss defeated LSU 31-13 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to become the first winner of the new trophy.

Nope. LSU came up with the idea , contacted Ole Miss and we were receptive to it. I believe there was a contest of some sort to name it and both schools mutually agreed on "Magnolia Bowl", as it is the official tree of both states.

The older LSU fans detest OM more than anyone else! I grew up hating TA&M and Auburn. OM wasn't as good in the 80's.

We wanted a rival we could slap around like our little bitch and take a knee with the ball with 5 minutes left in the game.

Should have chosen another rival. Freeze is going to dominate LSU for years to come.
