As of week 7, my top 5 looks like this:
1. Toss up between Jeremy Hill and Mike Davis
2. Collins
3. Tre Mason
4. Neil
5. Another toss up between Yeldon and Drake
Gurley and Marshall obviously would be in the top 5 if healthy, Malena is another one who could/should make the top 5. Anyone else I'm missing who should be in top 5?

Besides Drake's fumble problem, he is a solid back. I like Tre Mason a lot as well, but JH has been the most consistent IMO.

Tre could be higher numbers wise but he is sharing carries with 2 other quality backs.

It's not like hill hasn't been consistent. He missed the first game of the year and barely played the first 2 games back and still has close to 800 yards rushing this year so far with 9 TD's. He's averaging well over 100 yards+ per game and sharing carries with Hilliard, Magee, blue, etc.

If Malena would get out the damn way Trey Williams would be in this discussion.

I can agree with this...as others have said, Gurley would also place in the top 5 but doesn't now due to injury...otherwise, Gurley would most likely replace Mason or Collins due to those 2 backs bloating their stats versus Samford and Western Carolina-type opponents, while having low rushing TDs or low YPC averages...
As to Davis versus Hill:
Davis has more total rushing yds than Hill in as many games played
Both have 9 rushing TDs, which leads the league
Davis easily outclasses Hill in total offensive yds from scrimmage, meaning he's relevant as a receiver, while Hill is not, even in a supposedly better passing offense than what USC has...

I would love to see Hill and Davis play in a meaningful game against each other, to decide this question head to head.

Most of this is irrelevant since hill missed most of the first two games

Davis is scary fast, I was very impressed.

I am not saying he isn't impressive, but when you want to give stats as an answer let's level the field. If hill had played in the first two games his numbers would be over 1000 yards rushing already especially considering the competition level of the second game

The next highest rusher for LSU is Magee with 40 carries: he's 33rd in the SEC. Next behind Davis for USC is Shaw, a QB: he's carried 74 times and is 24th in the SEC. Magee, Blue, and Hilliard have carried 123 times, compared to USC's Shaw, Wilds, and Carson having carries a combined 125 times. Davis is averaging more per gm than Hill. There's no argument here....

So, give Hill his first two games and the stats change drastically
