When I read this article, my first thought was of Clowney pondering sitting out this season to get to the NFL without injuring himself. The article is about elite HS SEC commits and the idea that it could be a good idea for them not to play their SR season to avoid the risk of injury and potentially missing out on a scholarship.

It hasn't happened yet but with the Clowney situation and now this article.
Could in the future we see;1)HS Sr's sitting out, training, studying and enrolling early at college 2)College Players sitting out the last year prior to NFL eligibility?

What has Clowney said to you to make you think this?

UGA has several players who were hurt in their senior year in HS. Richt honors his scholarship offers as long as you are a good kid.

Can't say the same for other programs and how they treat kids like pieces of meat.

Richt has run his prized pony into the ground and has refused to think about his players' NFL futures. Its a shame to see Marshall down because you know Richt will just push Gurley that much harder now that he doesn't have a good backup.

Are you hanging onto the dream that Clowney is still playing for team and school?...errr not playing would be more accurate.

13 of UGA's incoming recruits last year did just that... but didn't sit out football. It's already happening because you get to backcount or forward count them to other years' recruiting classes. In the SEC anyway.....

Saban lets his players know that injuries are not acceptable (unless you suck, then you may be injured and not even know it).

I think that if the NCAA fails to find some way for the players to be compensated, they will absolutely start sitting out.

Social media, recruiting rankings, and tv have given them all sorts of outlets that make them far more visible to scouts than they used to be. If you are a sophomore who grew up with not much money, and if you aren't good in school, what good is staying another year in college for a year of education when you could be making millions of dollars?

Let's face it. Kids today have better nutritional diets, more knowledgeable coaches, and are growing into grown arse men in their teenage years much more frequently than in the past. Many times you look at a kid in HS and say "wow! He's college ready." Athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before. College FB in itself has changed dramatically. I'm not for giving them compensation in college, but if they want to go straight from HS to the NFL then I think it should be allowed once more since their average physiology has shown their bodies and mentalities can handle the pressure of the NFL and professional world.

It would suck. Just think guys like T. Richardson, JD Clowney, Julio, etc. were all physically nature enough to go to the NFL, they would probably sit the bench for the first few years and we'd have never seen them evolve in college.

Next ? Who else was/is physically ready as a freshman?

IDC. I'd rather them waste away in the NFL than sit on a scholarship wasting the coach's and team's time for their own selfish gains.

When I said compensation, I didn't necessarily mean colleges paying players. I was thinking along the lines of letting players use their names for personal gain.

I would think that the NCAA (or the schools) would rather get a piece of the action rather than rolling over and letting the NFL pass a rule allowing the players to be drafted straight out of high school. But then, who knows what everyone will do. I just know that sometimes people have to be selfish to take care of their families, especially if they are putting their marketability on the line by risking injury.

It sucks for all of us as fans, but it's the reality. I am an Alabama fan, and I'm sure that if my parents could be entertained watching out of shape players try to outplay other out of shape players for bragging rights, I could probably find a way to be entertained. I just don't think that whatever we are used to right now is going to last much longer the way we do it. Something's going to have to give.
